Default i think im f-ed

i recently put a cam in my car and couldn't get the balancer all the way on. i was in a hurry and figured it wouldnt hurt to drive it like that for a few days. i knew i would need new belts. so i go to change the bolt and pull it the rest of the way on. as im loosening it, it starts off really really tought to turn, then it gradually gets looser. i keep trying to unscrew it and it goes nowhere. so im like great, the balancer bolt is stripped inside of my crank.

any suggestions as to how to get it out?

BTW, my car sucks

Are the threads on the bolt actually all chewed up?

If so, all you can really do is try to clean the crank out with the exact same tap (thread/size) or it’s time to build a stroker.

Pure blaspheme... Just check it out first before you go nuts. Make sure it cant be cleaned up. And if it's too bad, buy a new crank and stroke it!

Or if the threads are indeed messed up you could try to put a helicoil in it and see how that works out.

Hmmm... Pry out on the bolt head with a LONG screwdriver while trying to unscrew it.

First determine if the bolt/crank snout is stripped or just mangled. If the threads are just mangled, then the bolt should come out eventually. If the threads are completely stripped, it'll be a royal pain in the *** to get the bolt out. Either way, you are f-ed. Heli-Coil on such a high yield might be too much for the wire, not to mention the fact that you'd have to drill the crank snout to install it and a handheld drill isn't going to cut it. Let's face facts, worst case scenario you'll need a new crank and bearings. Good luck.

the bolt fell out this morning and the tip of its kinda messed up. ill get some pics up later.

but anyways, is there any kind of thread chaser for this large of a bolt? And do yall think the balancer will fly off at high RPM's?

The tap you need is a 16mm X 1.50. Good luck.

If you are indicating trying to clean up the threads on the bolt that is a bad idea. Just get a new bolt and try to salvage the threads in the crank snout with a thread cleaning tap and go from there.

It sounds like you(98BlackZ28M6) don't know that the crank bolt is not reusable. Like Rokko said get another bolt. But be forwarned!!! If the threads in the crank are buggered up, then trying to pull the balancer on with another bolt will definitely kill them the rest of the way. Be careful, and again good luck.

Definently GET a NEW bolt and get a tap and tap the bolt hole first, put some good anti-seize on the inside of the crank threads. you probably stripped the threads when you were putting the pulley back on the first time.

That is why the threaded Rod and nut is the BEST way to install the pulley.
