Default 01 ls6 cam gring number

I am about to purchase an 01 ls6 cam. Is there a grind # ingraved in it that I need to look out for? I would hate to be ripped off.

The part number for a 01 LS6 cam is 12560950. I don't remember, but I don't think you will see them all on the end of the cam. You will see enough of them to know if it is right or not. The specs on that cam are .525/.525 204/211 116 LSA. I would not buy it if I were you. The 02+ LS6 cam is part number 12565308. The 02+ specs are .551/.555 204/218 117.5 LSA. That may not seem like much, but it is a big difference. No sense in buying the cam and being disappointed.

Actualy, the ls6 cam was designed to go in the very lightweigh and arodynamic Zo6. I am putting it on my 01 ext cab GMC Sierra. And while the 02 may be bigger, I will loose more low end with it than with the 01. This is the reason I want the 01.

I ran both cams with a negligible difference between the two.

The 02 LS6 cam I bought had the last 4 #'s of the part number 5308 on the flywheel end of the cam. So I would assume you could look for 0950 in the same place.

If that's the case you would be better off with a cam with a low LSA, like 112.
