Default LS6 Cam ? ? ? ? ? ?

I have inquired in the past in this section about cam recommendations which i still have written down and value everyones opinion my only prob is money is tight. My question is with CAI,HEADERS,EXHAUST,LS6 INTAKE on my A4 SS would i see any benefit out of a LS6 cam? There is a guy trying to cut me a good deal on one but im not sure if its gonna be what i want since id like to see 375+ to the rearwheels. Give me some input, thanks

I to have wondered what the big deal is about an LS6 cam can you benefit in any from it? I see people always putting this and that parts from LS6/z06 on their car what parts are interchangeable on our cars and their and we would actually benefit from getting?

I did a lot of research prior to my cam as well. The only advantage with the LS6 cam is driveability (very similar to stock). You will unlikely see 360hp with that cam.

Really depends how you want the car to drive.
Similar to stock but with punch
Stealth I and II from MTI also TSP has a 220 stealth.
Those cams are on 115/116lsa

IMO cant go wrong with a TR224 114lsa

and they will all get you in the 370rwhp desired.

Yes, you will see a gain. But I recommend to get a high stall converter to go with it; a small 3000-3200 TC will compliment it perfectly. Stock idle, no SES, no problems. I ran a best of 12.49 @ 109 mph in 70 degree weather will those mods. It's a nice stealth setup that makes a perfect street sleeper. I dyno'd 348 rwhp unlocked with the TC and cam.

Search for it in the dyno section someone swapped the ls6 cam into a stock car... I was thinking about doing it so my car is still basically stock but has a little more zoom

On a desktop dyno you see like 11hp on a completely stock LS1. There is about a 5 ft/lb loss from idle to 3K. This is with the 01 LS6 specs that I have saved.

Don't forget that the LS6 cam was designed with an M6 in mind. In an A4 the loss in low end will be more pronounced.
I still think there are much better cams out there. Hell a 216/220 Comp is a better cam.

Hi Folks
I have the LS6 Cam and GM Ported LS6 heads with a M6. The Car pull real hard after 3500 into the 6000 ranges but below that, it is like the stock cam and maybe less. It is very streetable - after installing it, started the car, I thought I had the stock cam. In a way it was a little disappointing, I expected a little more lobing, etc from it. If want a little more HP and still pass all your state inspection, it is not a bad choice. If you are looking for a lot of HP - this is not the cam for you.

lol, always thought it was funny to hear people talk about the streetability of the LS6 cam. Well yeah its going to be streetable, it came in a factory car, look at the Z06, you dont hear stock Z06's lopping at a red light and having drivability issues. This cam IS going to drive like stock, with a slightly different powerband. From everything I've seen, slightly less midrange and a little more peak power. A guy here in town put down 373 hp & 361 Ftlbs with that cam and Mac mid-lengths. If you are looking for a cam that is very streetable and something you can't really hear, I would look into something similar to a TR220 or TR224 on a 114lsa. That was the first cam I had, you could almost tell it was there, but if you werent paying attention, it was easily overlooked. Made about 380rwhp but had quite a bit more torque/midrange....its all about area under the curve

I am full bolt on w/ the LS6 cam and I put down 361 rwhp and 348 tq.I run with and beat higher dynoing cars all the time so I am pretty happy with it.I gained nothing with a tune as I had a 13.4 A/F on the baseline dyno and actually lost a few hp going to a 12.9 A/F.I have been very happy with this cam,BUT I am going with a bigger cam.....

Yes you would see a benefit out of the LS6 cam. Its pretty unlikely you will get 375 rwhp out of it in an A4 car. However if money is tight and you can install it yourself I would say you should definitely go for it. If you are having someone install it I would go bigger. What most of these people responding in this thread aren't looking at is the dollar per hp. Think about it.

Used 02-04 LS6 cam and springs - $150 for at least 10 rwhp

You would pay that for a Lid and probably get less hp. Just my 2 cents.

You also get a higher rev range. My car makes peak power at 57-5800 and holds it till 6600.I shift at 6400....I put this cam in when I had lid,tb and a cutout and gained 15 rwhp and 7 rwtq.....

You won't see 375rwhp with that set up since you have an A4. You might be close with an M6. I have basically the same set up but, I have a TSP 224R cam and my car only made 365 rwhp. If I were you I would wait for the money to get a better cam. It will be worth it. You are only going to see minimal gains with the LS6 cam. Not worth tearing into the engine if you ask me. Just my $.02.
