Default Is it a must to take off A/C radiator for Cam install

Im getting really close to getting the cam in there but wondered if I really had to take off the A/C radiator and discharge the system.

Nope, just lift it up and out of the way, didn't take mine out for either of the 2 cam installs I have had. Just be CAREFUL!

yeah, me too. just be sure not to bring it up or down too far(depending on whether u drop it or lift it) because the a/c lines arent flex or bend friendly

Just discharge it, especially if it's your first cam swap. It saved me a ton of hassles. All it took to fill was two bottles of R-134a and a $5 filling hose at autozone. It's actually colder now than it was before.

Yep, Way too easy to take out for all the hassles of leaving it there.

theres no reason to discharge it. as stated just carefully pull it down out of the way, i held mine down with a bungee cord and then slid the cam out. piece of cake.

I do alot of AC work so remember that if you discharge your system and open it up to remove your condensor, if it's open for more than 15 minutes or so you NEED a new dryer. It's just the way it is.

Since always. I also replace complete AC systems whose owners thought they knew what they were doing when they opened it up. Don't take this the wrong way, but if your AC system is in anyway important to you then have it completely evacuated and a new dryer put on it before recharging. If you just need it to work for "a while" then continue on.

Did you know that you should replace the dryer once a year even if it's not opened up ?? Since your system was opened up and the dryer was not replaced right now you have an AC system that's full of moisture that's forming acid that's eating away at the metals from the inside out. By the time you know it has a problem you can get your wallet out to fix it. When you open the system up moisture gets in. There's no way around this. Moisture + the oil that's in AC systems makes acid.

Believe me I deal with this literally every week.

just move it out of the way. like jrp said, if u dont have a friend to carefully keep it at bay, then just use a bungee cord to keep it up or down. no reason to discharge

Thanks for all of your input. I know now it is possible and will go ahead and proceed not to discharge it.

Yeah. You can actually make removing the cam a one man operation. I just stuck a bucket underneath the condensor and pulled it (carefully) down out of the way.

Note: I had a friend helping...but I knew better than to just have him hold it...LOL.
