Default Carbon buildup......

When I took my cylinder heads off the engine block, I noticed there was quite a bit of carbon build up on the cylinder heads, especially the valves. Now, is there some liquid out there that I can use that will remove this carbon build up?

I used a scaper/putty knife to get the bulk of the material off then use M.E.K. with a scotchbright pad. This will dissolve almost anything with minimal rubbing. Once complete, then finish clean with brake cleaner.

Automatic Transmission Fluid works, too. Just let it soak in an ATF bath.

Now, what about the cylinder head that's still sitting on my engine. I only had to take off the driver's side head off, so how can I clean the passenger side head that's still on the engine?

As well as the other off side? None.
You can use Red Line fuel system cleaner, one bottle for a tank, it will help a lot but nothing like taking the head off.

Spray some SeaFoam or GM top engine cleaner in the intake ports and let it soak until you get it fired up. Should burn a bunch of it off the intake side anyway.

i would just take the other one off too, kinda a pain though, but dont head gaskets come in a pair anyway, pluss you could have uneven bank to bank
fuel ratios because one head is clean and flowing well, and the other is still
dirty.jmo
hope that helps.

Yeah....like thats real different from spraying it in the spark plug holes, or spraying it until it kills the motor and letting it sit overnite (like the DIRECTIONS say to do). LOL.

nothing like pouring water into the running engine. I did that too. Quite an adrenaline rush from thinking about what would happen if my hand slips and I pour too much....

Seriously, if you clean one side by hand, might make sense to do the other one the same way. Otherwise you can end up with different left/right compression, and I don't think our PCM will like it too much.
