Default Castrol Syntec?

What weight of oil goes in a 2000 SS that came from the factory with the Castrol Syntec option? 10w-30 10w-40 5w-30? If not one of these which one? Also this is synthetic correct?

The SS came from the factory with Mobil 1 5w-30. However, German Castrol 0w-30 is a better oil. Used oil analysis shows less engine wear when it is used.

Ive been using Mobil 1 5w-30 sense I got the car. Synthetic is the only way to go.

The SS came with Syntec in 99 and 2000 as an SLP option. It was 5-30. The "German" Syntec is the best product. It's an 0-30, and can be found at Auto Zone.

Were you ever told to use this? Sounds awfully heavy for a stock motor...I could see a racing engine using this that doesn't have the tight tolerances, but not a standard ol' LS1.

Hi Folks
NO one ever told me - I looked at the OIL - it is for racing and the car is only used once in awhile - pushed hard. The car has an LS6 modified oil pump and I did not think it would hurt but maybe I better rethink it.
Thanks
Bill

You would probably loose power with that weight oil. Stick to a 30 weight.

Ive been running Sytech 10-30 since the second oil change (first one was with "dyno" oil for break-in purposes). Have had 0 issues or oil burning. I definitly reccomend it.

What is different about the German Castrol 0w-30? How does it differ from the Castrol 5w-30? Which would be better wheather wise since I live in Tennessee?

The Castro 5w-30 is hydrocracked dino oil. In other words it is not a true synthetic. It is Group III oil. The German Syntec is sold as Castrol SLX in Europe and it is a Group IV (PAO)/Group V (Ester) blend. It is a true synthetic. The bottom line is that you will get lower wear from using German Castrol as confirmed by oil analysis.
