Default cam and daily driver

can I run something like an mti x1 cam with the stock cats and still be smog legal? idle ok?

I know it would diminsh some output, but would like to stay legal if possible.

what kind of power might this make? this is on a stock head ls6 with air intake, s2 tb, stainless works lt's, stock cats, magnaflow xpipe, stock ti catback.

If you have a sniffer test, you can forget about passing it with the X1. If you don't have the sniffer test, then ditch the cats, and throw that X1 in. You should be around 420 I'm guessing with your stock heads.

There's no sniffer test in Houston anymore for late model vehicles, so I'd dump the cats and drop in the X1. It's a great cam!

thanks for the replys.

It's a done deal. I'm dropping the car off 1/21 for the install. I'm going with the X1. They (MTI) even offered an X1 with a 114 ls (as opposed to the 112 ls) to improve the idle, but said the consequence is the peak power will shifted about 500 rpms further out in the powerband. I think I'll live with the choppier lope at idle to retain max mid range power.

Yes Mike, I've seen Corey's car before. Sounds wicked. I think mine with the X1 will end up sounding even wilder <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
