Default Shifting RPMs

I was wondering, how can some LS1's shift at 6800 rpms. I bounce of the rev limiter at 6200. What allows you to be able to shift at those higher rpms?

EDIT OK I am a dumbass I just read your sig.
What are the specs on your Cam?
Who tuned the car?
Do you still have the factory tach?
The stock tach is pretty damn slow n cannot keep up. It may seem like its hitting the limiter lower than it is if you are going by the tach.

FWIW I am running a pretty healthy Head/Cam combo and I shift mine just above 6600RPM.

well the tune is what gets the rev limiter up....

BUT.......on a stock engine, even if you pushed the rev limiter to 1000000000000RPM you would still be limited by valve float that WILL happen due to the stock valve springs.....

Get an auto meter tach and I am willing to bet it is shifting higher than 6200 rpm. If not then the tuner needs to re set your limiter and or shift point.

When I changed out to 4.30s in my car with the stock motor. I had the limiter set at 6600 with a predator. I thought mine was coming on at 5200 lol.

I put a shift light in and shifted by it instead of whatching that slow *** tach. Solved my problem.

I now have an autometer tach and its funny to compare the stock one to the autometer. I can rev the motor in neutral and there is an obvious delay with the stocker. The autometer is up and back down while the stocker is still lazily on its way up and does not even go as high as the auto meter.

I have an F13 that peaks at 6900 but I am terrified to shift that high with stock rod bolts. Any of you regularly **** higher than 6500 without issues?

Shift light is set to 6600. I have made about 18 passes with that shift point. I am about to build a new motor so I am no longer worried about my rod bolts. They survived. If I were you and you plan on staying with the stock bottom end, I would upgrade the rod bolts. It can be done in the car, but I would pull the motor. Then you can shift it where the cam will make more power.

I plan on shifting my new combo around 7200 but It will be a forged bottom end.

My first gear shift is at 6550-6590RPM. Its an A4. The engine is unopened. I have pulled maybe 35 runs at that. No problems. It is getting a slight slap but thats more because of the 100 track runs than the 1 second spinning at 6600RPM on a track run.
