blew valve cover seal?
Just put in a new cam (228/228 .575/.575 LSA114), patriot dual springs, and Kooks LT's...Started the car up on Tues. drove it (open headers/LOUD) about 5 miles...Friday I start the car up, drive to the exhaust shop,10 miles, and just before I get to the shop, I hear a pop, pshhhh sound, and I see a cloud of black/gray smoke behind me. Pull into the exhaust shop, pop the hood, and the valve cover seal is blown out on both sides of the center screw...
New seal, 9 bucks. easy fix...
BUT any ideas why it blew the seal? The stocker "looked" fine after taking it out, but I replaced it with a new one all the same.

Your PCV system isn't working or you didn't torque that rocker cover down. Those gaskets swell up once used so it's NOT a good idea to try and reuse the old one. If you had that gasket seated in its' groove and you torqued that cover down it's hard to see how you blew out that gasket if your running N.A.

I toqued them down to 9lbs... it's possible I missed one of the bolts though... Its also possible the seal popped out of the groove just a little when I was putting everything back together...
How do I determine if it is my PCV system not working?

They seem to last a few times when taking covers off and on but once they pop out or stretch its time for new ones.
I was cleaning my covers with kero and 2 minutes later the gasket had scretched an extra 2".
