glenn, you need to get your dremel out, go down to home depot, get some cutting tips(they are metal, and rounded off at the end), some sanding wheels(they look like scratch pads but in a wheel form) and some sand paper, and PORT THAT BITCH. takes a few hours and some patience. as soon as i can get my hands on another stock tb, i am going to do it again and do a write up this time around. it is suprisingly easy if you take your time and be patient.

SSilver those Dyno Dynamics dyno's are what we use here in Australia, your 1/4 mile times look on par with others of same setup. Your HP is down 30-40HP, thats just from different dyno, Dyno Dynamics you loose heaps more power.

Also SSilver is your car untuned?

It is suprisingly easy to port your own throttle body. I followed the well known writeup on this site that has been going around for awhile now and mine came out awesome. Spent about 9 hours over 3 days working on it. After installing it I could feel the better throttle response along with better pulling on the top end. It may have been all in my head, but ported tb's have shown nice power increases on the dyno @ ET. As to idle speed with the TR224, I originally had mine set at 850rpms stock M6 idle speed and while it loped and sounded awesome the car shook too much for being my DD. Uping it to 900rpms smoothes out the idle with no car shake and it still lopes pretty good. My idle is set at 950rpms with the AC running. Originally at 900rpms with the AC on it worked but seemed like the car was alot happier at 950rpms w AC on.

How much are the tr224/224 cam's going for? How would you compare this cam to the 2002-04 Zo6 cam in over all power?

This reason I'm asking is I got a 02 Z06 cam for a 98 vette engine....still building.....ported heads.....Ls1 intake at the moment.....Total seal piston rings.....upgraded valve train to 918 springs, hardened pushrods, harland sharp rockers 1.7's and ti-retainers. This engine will be in a car weighing 2600Lbs. with 3.27 posi rear. Looking at 350 to 375 hp at the rear tires.

Your lucky for asking as I used to run a 02 LS6 cam b4 swapping to my TR224.. I made 376rwhp @ 361rwtq with the LS6 cam and 399rwhp @ 386 rwtq with the TR224. That's a 23rwhp @ 25rwtq gain over the LS6 cam at peak power. The area under the curve is what sets them apart. LS6 cam made only 8-12rwtq gains over the stock LS1 cam from 2500-4000rpms but above 4500rpms is where the LS6 cam makes it's power to 6500rpms. The TR224 provides more power than stock from 2500-6500rpms. Add an LS6 intake along with a 220 or 224 grind cam and you'll be scooting at 2600lbs.

Cats really choke hp. I'm running a TR 227 and only pulled 370 rwhp. Mods are in the sig. I gained 13 rwhp after the tune.

Everyone who mentioned the ported TB, I just couldn't make up my mind prior to getting the tune. I read a few posts of people having trouble and decided against it. If I do it now, do I need a new tune?

Phil,
I wasn't going to use the titanium retainers if I had gone with the Comp 918's, but I decided to get the complete PP Gold Spring kit for $295 that came with titanium retainers and super 7 locks. I've broken 2 valve springs before on an older Camaro L82 engine. It had double springs and the loud ticking gave me plenty of warning that a spring was broken.

Thanks,
Glenn
