Default Rust & Pitting on Solid Roller Lifters, FIX IT??

OK folks, don't fry me, this is for a friend with a MOPAR product. He's building a very nice 67 Cuda Drag car. Very professional with a funny car style cage, etc. He bought a race prepared 440 engine with a solid roller cam. He tore it down and found some moisture damage to the lifter barrels and some to the cam lobes. He says he can get the cam polished and save it, but he's wondering about the solid roller lifters. He said the pitting is on the barrell, not the roller. I would think that shouldn't affect anything as long as he removes any high spots and gets the rust off. By the way, the lifter bores are bushed with bronze.

I really respect everyone on this forum, so I thought I'd post this and get everyone's opinion. Should he replace the $700 set of roller lifters, or just clean them up?

I know some of the experts in here must have an opinion on this one?

Why gamble? Just buy some new lifters. Out of the entire cost of building a drag car does another set of lifters really cost that much?

How much does it cost you to rip the motor back down and replace them after the car is together and has problem (In time and parts)

I'd say if the rust was just superficial, he should scotchbrite them down and use them. Is it just really light? Or like chunks coming off? lol

No big chunks coming off, just pitting into the base material. A new set of lifters is $700 and he said he'd get a set, I just think it might be a waste of money.

Well I can tell you I sure as hell wouldn't put rusty lifters back into my car.
