Default Started car with 227/227 cam tonight!

I'm in love with this cam. I haven't even driven it yet, but it sounds so nice! We started the install on Wednesday, spent Thursday installing the cam, Friday changing the valvesprings, and today prepping/painting/installing intake and getting everything going. We fired her up at around 1 a.m. The cam is a 227/227 .599/.599 on a 111. No clearance issues, but no idle either. I finally got it to go down to about 850 before it died after I ran it a little bit. I'm gonna see what I can do about that tomorrow. I'm using 918 springs, and I'm confident they'll hold. You can't even hear the extra valvetrain noise over the cam and dumps. It seems to rev a good bit faster now, too. I'm very happy so far, I'll see how it drives in a couple days after I bleed the brakes and finish the wire relocations. I'm pretty damn happy right now.

Nice Job, sounds like everything went smoothly. All you have to do now is go test out burnout capability Hopefully once all this damn snow that keeps falling melts, I'll be able to put in my TR224 112. Just gotta get the car out of storage

Good job. Im in the middle of doing a cam install myself. Today, the new cam went and it looks like none of the lifters fell. Whew!!!

All thats left to do is change the springs and put everything back together. Did you use the AutoZone tools too? That tawainees puller was pretty weak. It barely got the pulley off with out stripping itself out.

How was it changing the springs? Did you lose any keepers?

Changing the springs was a bitch with the stock Autozone tool. But, after some modifying, it worked like a charm. We cut it down, changed the angle of the handle, and brought the arms closer together. I lost one keeper, but the local Chevy dealer had some in stock.

I had a ASP pulley, the steering wheel puller from Autozone worked great on it.

So was the cam install pretty easy though? How many hours did it take or would you think it would take if you did it all in the same day. Congrats on the new addition!

This cam is big for some, but too small for others. This is my daily driver, and I'm sure the cam will be plenty streetable with tuning. I got a great deal on it, which is why I went with it, plus I didn't want to have to flycut my pistons.

Assuming I had all the right tools at my disposal, and everything went great, I think I could do it in 8 hours. I didn't have all the necessary tools, so I had numerous trips to town, I had to work around my job, and I spent some hours wasting time with useless tools (valvespring tools mostly).

It's a custom Comp grind. I bought it from a guy who ordered it, but went to something else before he could install it. I got the cam, pushrods, springs, and titanium retainers for $250. I didn't use the pushrods, springs, or retainers (double springs that require head machining and unknown pushrods) but I can sell them.
