Default What heads should I get?

I have a 01 TA WS6 M6 with QTP 1 3/4 Lt's, a 3" Y pipe, MTI Lid, Flowmaster exhaust and I am getting a FMS F11 cam ( 228/230 .581 .591 LSA 112 + 4). My car is a weekend toy and I only take it to the track a few time a year and I am looking to get a set of heads, but I don't know what kind to get. I don't want to spend more then $2500. I will be getting all the bolt on's and with the heads and cam my goal is to be around 450rwhp running low 11's. I was also planning on having the heads milled for a 11:1.1 cr. I know I will need to do some suspension work, lose some weight and get a better rear to hit low 11's, but right now I am focusing on the engine. What heads should I get and should I go with 5.3 or 5.7?

If you are shooting for 11.1:1 compretion you will need to get 5.3 truck heads to work with that cam. If you where to mill any 5.7 heads down to where you want them you would run into P/V clearance problems. Look into TEA heads and AFR. Some of the best on the market. I have a set of ls6 heads but they wont net you the 11:1 CR that you watn

Would it not be better to have a slightly lower CR, like say 10.8-10.9? I think that might work better with pump gas. 11.1 might be ok if you can run good 93 octane all the time. Anyway, from what I have heard, TEA heads work great with FMS cams. And they will hand finish the heads which gives even more power for only a little more money. Although I won't be able to get heads/cam for a while, my choice right now would be a FMS F13 (or call Alan for a custom grind) with a set of TEA Stage 1.5 5.3L heads that have been hand finished. Some others to look into would be MTI's Stage 2E 5.3L, or maybe AFR's if you have a lot of money. Anyway, just my 2 cents.

I have a nice set of MMS stage 2 heads for sale, cheaply. They are 5.7L cores, milled .030 for 10.8:1, 2.02 1.56 ferra valves, etc. They ran 11.58@116 stock weight with them (401rwhp, a4, unlocked, with a 224 112ls cam). The same port work on my other car (2001 Z28) ran 10.81@127 (229 114ls cam, 4400rpm stall vs. 3400, around 300# lighter). I'll let them go for $1125 shipped, outright. They were $1899 new (have original reciept). If you're interested I can snap some pictures of the port work for you.

handling compression is all in the tune and cam specs. 11.1 is quite easily run on 91-93 octain provided you have taken the neccesary steps to ward off detonation.

Another vote for TEA's Stage 1.5 5.3L head along with their Stage II 5.3L. AFR is making a great head that is within your budget. Also check out Rapid Motorsports Stage II head. I've never seen a package that Mikey built that didn't perform!
