Default B1 installed, questions

Ok I got the B1 cam installed on my '01 A4 and have some questions about the idle. I am running FLP longtubes with offroad sections and cutout. I can cap up the cutout and it will be a tad less likely to die but I still have to 2-foot the brake/gas everywhere I go. Can I be assured of no issues with dying once it is tuned and maybe throw the cats back on? My car idles at ~500-550 the way it sits now which lopes great when I CAN get it to idle. Even though this cam is on a 114lsa, idling at 500 es no bueno. Thinking about taking it to MTI this weekend for tuning.

btw, with the cutout open, if I sit at idle for more than about a minute the SES light will come on and start flashing, but as soon as I start moving again it goes away. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

The SES light is normal if you are idling at 500rpms with a cam, the computer thinks its misfiring.

The car will run great once you tune it. Bump the idle up a little and maybe put a little hole in the throttlebody blade and you'll probably be set.

Overall, how do you like the b1 cam? I have one sitting in my closet, which I almost sold, but now thinking of replacing my compcam 216/220 cam, which is in the car now, with the b1 cam.

Tuning will help. Raise the idle up to about 800-875.

viper,

Long story, but when I first installed the cam, sounded good and sotp feel was good and still is. Only problem was that because of my busy schedule I was not able to dyno it immediately. I am a patrol officer and use my car for work, but notice that not too much cars(criminals) dare run from me. Even bikers are amazed that I can keep up. But even before I installed this cam, my fuel pump crapped out and had to replace with a close to stock type but the pressure was not great. I have since replaced it with the walbro and now it runs better.

dont have graph to post or sound clips but before the pump change with the cam install I dynoed only 340 rwhp. Basically stock heads with mild hand porting. I still have to dyno it since I have replaced the pump, but work has kept too busy but will try to let you know.

All mods in my sig

The 1.8:1 rockers will increase your lift by 5.88%.

SLP's 1.85:1 rockers will increase lift by 8.82%. Of course, they claim "close to 10%", in their typical SLP BS.

Whoever told you 30+% is blowing smoke.

what??????
<img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" />
so the 216 / 220 .525 / .532 with the 1.8.1.

well be 216 / 220 .531 / .538.

only but its ok 4 street cuz the stock cam spec is 202/210 Dur @ .050, .496/.496 lift.

and is the 216 / 220 .525 / .532 is the best cam that i cane install with the 1.8.1 rockers??

divide lift by the stock rocker ratio (1.7) then multiply by the new rocker ratio

What midnightls1 said is correct and mainly the reason being that the ramp rates are higher once you go over 550 lift. Anything more than that will put your lift above .600 which will cause too much stress to the rest of the valvetrain. SLP uses the 10% mainly because of the safety factor, numbers are closer to 8%. I was actually thinking of doing the 1.8 rockers but somehow cost was getting high at the time. Since my b1 might go in soon, there will be no need for them.
