Default Upcoming Plans

I have a set of 5.3 litre heads on the way which will be recieving my stock intake valve and re using the truck valve (I have heard that these valves flow better then the stock ls1 valve for some reason). The truck exhaust valve is the same size as the ls1 exhaust valve right? I will have a five angle valve job performed and have the shop set up the proper spring installed height. The proper height is 1.850 inches right? Also, should I use a spring cup or just spring shims for the spring seats?

I will be installing a set of 977 springs with comp r lifters as well.

I am still finalyzing my cam decision however. After looking at the dominator cam (242/250 109lsa 578/578) and seeing that those heads can be milled slightly and still fit I am deciding on whether or not I should mill the 5.3s just a hair, say .010" for a little more compression.

Also, I will be ordering the edlebrock victor race headers and porting my ls6 intake also.

Man, I can't wait to get this done and on the road. Should be interesting.

One of the first sets of LS1 heads I did was just that, 5.3 with 5.7 intake size valves. The installed height of the 977 spring is 1.850 @ 155lbs and open is 1.250 @ 419lbs. I hope this is helpful.

Thanks and that is exactly the kind of info I am looking for. How did those heads turn out? What do you recommend on the combustion chamber unshrouding the valve wise? Thanks again.

I am an old school head porter and when it comes to deshrouding the combustion chamber I always use a cutter that sweeps the chamber out to just before the cylinder wall line. It may take a cc or 2 out but more than makes up for it in making the head flow better at low to mid lift. If you have the heads there and disassembled put one of the 2.00 valves in and you will see how close the valve edge is to the chamber. Look at my head pix on another thread that I have and look at the combustion chamber pic and you will see how the chamber is rounded around the valve to unshroud it.
