I've never rode in any 408's, but I can tell you from a video I saw that Vince's car runs like a raped ******* ape man. I want the exact setup he has some day. I'm guess that will cost me over 10k so I won't even think about doing it yet. Someday though.

Default 408

Whats this with everyone thinking you need to add weight to get a 408?? They are all wrong you can loose weight and get a 408 by just getting an ls2 block and building an aluminum 408 the block is only 998.00 shipped. Don't think twice about iron iron is oldschool aluminum is here now and is available now. No reason to go iron anymore. Anybody that has built an iron 408 in the last couple of months should be bummed. The iron block adds more than 65 lbs try 85-90.

Not bummed at all. The new 6.0L block is a 4.00 bore. How are you going to get 4.030 safely w/out resleeving? The only other way to go 408ci safely with that block is to go with a bigger crank than 4.0 and then you will have to deal with a stroke bigger than the bore. Not saying there is something wrong with that, but I like the way my car currently revs. Revs just like a 346ci.. If I would have waited for the LS2 I would be just getting the block. There are still concerns about if the current bigger cranks will work. We know they have no aftermarket cams yet. Brackets will need to be custom fitted. Before you know it it will cost you an extra $5k in fabrication to get it to work. Let's see... Spending $5k plus over what I paid for what I have now or 80lbs....? Hmmmmmm. I made the right choice.

You don't need a 4.030 bore to achieve your power vince you can do it with a 4.010 or 4.020 bore. The extra 1 or two cubes will not make it or break it there will be no measurable amount of power gained. As far as more money it shouldn't be any more and the cams will be here shortly. Allen is building some ls2 strokers in a month or two and the price shouldn't be more at all than an iron block. No way will it be 5k more.

arent iron blocks more stout though, as far as holding up to big CR's and spraying alot, or does it not matter with iron vs aluminum?

yes they are little more stout, but there are people spraying 300 shots on aluminum blocks with no problems whatsoever. Also FI is not a problem with aluminum blocks.

What's the difference in sound between aluminum and iron? Please try to describe it.
