Default Harland Sharp 1.7 Rockers???

How good are these rockers? They would be going on a 02 SS with 224/591,114 comp cam, PP Gold dual springs, ported & polished heads milled .030

Did a search already, but did not answer my questions. Did see someone mention possible value float problem and also someone with head clearance issues. Are these real concerns?

On Harland Sharps website it states 15 to 40 hp gain because of less friction, is there anything to this or all hype?

I put a set in my car when I did the v6 to v8 swap. I don't know before/after specs for you. I have .588 lift and have spun it up to 6900 on 918 springs.... I swapped to 99+ style heads on my 98.

I really doubt you'll pick up more than 10 rwhp. People typically get higher gains on traditional SBC's with stamped rockers because they dont have the bearing at the fulcrum like ours does, which is where you get most of your friction. Although the roller tip will help, it's not going to be a huge gain IMO. Only negative thing I've really heard about HS is that they're pretty heavy over the valve, which could cause the float issues you mentioned.

Dyno'd 392rwhp 366tq at TEA on 8/28/04. Ran 12.19 @ 113 on 10/16/04
Damn! Our motors must be twins! Our numbers are nearly identical!

XTrooper....haven't seen you post since LS1 days....NICE Vette!

Ahem, back to the subject matter. I doubt you'll see that much gain. I only got 15rwhp from swapping to their 1.8 ratio rockers. But you will have ease of mind. They are much more durable than the stock rockers, especially at higher rpms. The only issue I've seen or heard about is when a buddy had one fall apart during a 130 mile open road race (@ 150mph). And it actually looks like the Comp R lifter was to blame.

BTW, love the pic of your car launching! Gotta get me a converter......

I'd recommend sticking with the stock rockers, there seem to be too many issues with aftermarket pieces to make them worth the hassle. I've even heard of the HS rockers breaking.

Just my $.02

Do you know if anyone has had trouble with value float with dual springs?

Josh thanks for your reply, David was wondering if he should get these and install them when we put his heads back on.

Yep, I know a few people who had trouble turning their motors over 6400 rpm with aftermarket rockers and dual springs. And the problem was corrected by going back to stock

Off topic, but you're using a tornado fuel waster?

I have the HS RR 1.7 and havent had any problems with them at all. Im sure everyone has difference experiences, but what aftermarket part isnt a gamble. My brother works for Jernberg Industries and you should hear some of the stories of the steel industry and the automotive part manufacturers. Pretty much the mainstream automotive companies get the choice cuts of meat then the aftermarket companies get the leftovers. Good Luck on whatever you decide to do!

Xtrooper! You are one of the ones that "ruined" me! I was happy with my Firehawk until I read a thread that you participated in about the ASA cam a LONG time ago. There was a sound clip of it running with open headers. I downloaded that file to a CD and played it in my car!! I don’t need it now as you can see in my sig. Nice to see you again! And thank-you!

I would think you would be alright with dual springs which will help solve the valve float issues. BTW, I am the one who started a post about this a while back.

I think this must be his evil twin. The Xtrooper from LS1.com days liked a mild ride.

I have the HS rockers Comp R lifters and 977 springs. I spin over 6700 all the time without a problem. No issues here.
