Default Need Help With Cam Install...

Hey All...

Most of you are probably gonna think I'm stupid for even asking these questions, but I wouldn't ask if I knew the answers.. First Cam Install in anything and need to know a few things..

I am installing the GM Performance Parts LS1 HotCam Kit.. I need to know the fallowing...

1) What other Valvetrain parts will I need other than this kit??

2) What other parts should I replace while I'm performing this??

3) Are there any special tools or procedures that would be nice to have or know?

I am not really on a budget, so anything that would be a good upgrade to do while I'm in there would be nice to go ahead and get done.

Please let me know!!

THANX!

Also...

I am installing the John Lingenfelter/Weiand intake and a few other things while the motor is out of the car and need to know where I can get the fallowing items..

1) Who makes a really nice set of intake gaskets and where can I purchase them?

2) Where can I order a set of ARP Head Studs for the motor, I'm going to be Porting and Polishing the Heads as well as Port Matching and want to throw in a set of studs while I'm at it.

3) Headers - Who makes a nice set of Midlength Headers W/ Y-Pipe and Cats.. I need Midlengths due to the fact that I have a Pro-Kit on my car currently and would like to keep from bottoming out.

4) Head Gaskets - I have heard ROL makes nice gaskets, but where can I order these.

I'm sure I'll think of more, but that's all I can think of right now.

Thanx!! U guys Rule!

To answer as best I can - hopefully I'll get most of them:

I'm not sure what is in the hotcam "kit" but I'll list what you need and you can compare to the kit.

You will need:
new cam <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
springs
gaskets - water pump, timing cover
new crank bolt (I believe ARE just released a new reusable bolt)
some nice new pushrods (check out Thunder Racing)

You should probably also replace the timing set while you are in there. I suggest the Rollmaster double roller which you can get from SDPC.
You will need a pulley puller and a tool to remove and replace the springs.

As for head studs and gaskets - check out SDPC as well or Thunder Racing. The head studs may or may not be on backorder at the moment.

There are probably things I'm forgeting at the moment, but that should get you started.

MAC Midlengths are very good mid-length headers. I think that you will find several MAC owners who are very happy with them. I got the off-road version and put Random Tech Cats in the Y-pipe because most people say the MAC cats aren't very good. Also, get GM Headers gaskets for the headers. They are by far the best. As for the cam install, I don't know much. I am thinking of putting an LS6 Cam in this summer though, so let me know how the install goes.
