Default Another cost of not doing it yourself

After having the car down for almost a month, I picked up the car and brought it home and brought my spare parts into the house. Since I plan to sell my old cam, i opened the box it was in so that I take out the cam card for new cam, and put the cam card for my previous cam in the box for the new owner. I looked at the card and discovered the cam was ground with 1* advance when it was supposed to have 1* retard in it. 2 degrees is not the end of the world, but I spent a lot of time deciding what I wanted and now the valve events are off by 2*. Now I can either live with it or it will cost me down time and money to fix.

Moral of the story: Have your mechanic call you with the cam card specs if you have your parts shipped directly from the vendor to your mechanic. I'd suggest that applies to pushrods or any other part that can have variation too.

Ouch, depending on the size of the cam though, that measly 2* can make a difference when having to tune the SOB...been in those shoes...0* in a 232/236 when it was supposed to have a +4...

You could just advance or retard it for yourself if you wanted, but I also would be a little disapointed to get a differant cam than the one I ordered ..... Ssooo you'll be reading your cam cards more closely on any new cam perchase ehh ?

Ouch. I'd be kinda frustrated about that.

JRP:
My car was apart at my mechanic who is 40 miles away, so having the cam sent to me would not have been very pratical. It is a lesson learned.

I have a double timing chain. I wish I had the adjustable chain.

My double has an adjustment for 2 degree intervals. You could just retard the cam 2 degrees if you have the adjustment on the timing gear.

'Cam bushings'...They come in a small variety pack from 0-8*. They act sort of like a 'cam' bolt (just as older SLA suspension systems-adjustability for alignments). I know Jegs carries them for around $15. Summit may have them as well. I can guarantee no sponsor here carries them, so I'm not too worried about the whole non-sponser thing in this situation...I wouldn't really call it a 'bandaid' either. It's a pretty solid method of overriding a designer's careless mistake.

If it's a Rollmaster it's probably adjustable.
