Default Need Opinions!!!!!

I got a 2000 SS with the Castrol Syntec option. My question is can I go with Mobil 1 synthetic when I change the oil. I can't seem to find the German Castrol locally where I live. So I thought I couldn't go wrong with the Mobil 1. Just don't want to hurt anything changing oils! Also what would be better for my car 5w-30,10w-30,10w-40? Thanks in advance!

It is fine to switch brands. As for the weight of the oil, I would go with what the Owner's Book says.

People can get too fussy about oil. There aren't too many oils that will hurt your engine besides the oil that's in it if it stays too long. But a basic rule is you don't want too thick or too thin. I personally find most 5-30's are too thin; I don't like how they pour out of the bottle like water. But plenty of people run Mobil 1 5-30 with no problems. Other than the German Castrol, Mobil 1 0-40 is highly recommended. I'm running BG Hi-L0w-30. (It's $10 a quart, but I got case free). Mobil 1 10-30 is also in the good range for LS1's. If you want to run dino, I wouldn't run anything other than 10-30. Just one guy's humble opinon ...

I would probably use the same (closest) weight Moblie 1 oil to the Castrol Syntec that's in the car now. Should be fine with switching. I run Mobile 1 5w-30 in my T/A and wifes 02 Z28. My old 91 RS w/272,000 miles on its engine still gets Mobile 1 10w-30.

Also how many qts will it hold with filter? Don't know my car didn't come with a owners manual when I bought it! No mods just a bone stock 2000 SS.

If you can find it run the German 0w 30 Castrol, best oil for our cars by far.

If you can't Mobil 1 0w 40 is very close and good, M1 5w30 is a tad to thin for a "hard" driven LS1.
