Default low oil light came on today. HELP!!

My low oil light came on today. First off WTF!! I haven't noticed any oil puddles under my car. I haven't noticed it burning oil. It has been a month and a half since I got the oil changed and I was 1-2 quarts low this morning!! The only thing that has changed is that it has gotten colder here in TX. This is the first time that this has EVER happened. Can anyone help me figure out where all this oil went. I guess I will have to watch it very closely. HELP PLEASE!!

Have you been in the upper RPM's alot lately? Did you change your oil or did somebody else? Maybe they didnt put alot in to begin with? Is it in your catch can?

Not really. I haven't been driving it much at all lately. Someone else changed the oil. The catch can will not hold that much oil, and I know it is not in there. What the hell is going on?!!

Top it off and keep an eye on your oil level. It's very possible someone only put in 4 quarts or even just 5. Did you change types of oil at the last change? What about weight? Brand?

Try the European Mobil 1 0w40. I've read up alot about this oil. It or the German castrol 0w30 are two of the best oils to use. If you want to do some reading about these oils, do a search and you'll find lots of info. Patman is the man on the oil analysis, I've read lots of his posts and they're very informative. Hope this helps.

Both my LS1s consume oil. I usually have to put an extra 1/2-1 quart of oil inbetween oil changes. There's no smoke and no puddles of oil under the car, it just eats some oil. I have no idea where it goes but it's not that big of a deal to add an extra quart inbetween changes.

My 2002 SS hasn't used oil between changes. I'd top it off and check it closely. I
don't know who changed oil, but with stock filter it says 5.6 quarts. maybe he just
added 5 quarts. I use the truck filter which has more capacity and sits about 1"
below the pan, but still above front end. Then 6 quarts when filled. I also use Mobil1

where did you go? if you went to the dealer im willing to bet 5 quarts got put in. how many miles you put on the car since the oil change? losing a quart of oil after 1500-2000 miles is real common for high rev driving, esp if you have a shitty pcv system. the more oil your sucking out, the less air your getting out, leaving higher crank case pressure which is gonna give you some blow by

If you go anywhere like Jiffy Lube or Quaker State or any of the other places to get your oil changed they have the wrong information for the car.

I was heading out of town and didn't have the time to change the oil myself. Went to Jiffy Lube (DAMN IT) and their computer showed 4.5 quarts. After arguing with the guy, he still insisted this was the correct ammount of oil. I pulled my car out of the bay, popped the hood and checked the oil, sure enough it was short. Pulled right back in and had them top it off.

If you ever get your oil changed at one of these types of places, make sure you check it before you leave.

I change my own oil monthly. But my car consumes about 1 qt between changes and it will put aout alittle bit of grey smoke when downshifting really hard in upper RPMs

they dont have to prime the filter, just put in 5.5-5.75 quarts. most places put 5 quarts in every car and let it go. cars taht take 4 quarts i always see over full and that take 6 quarts are always low

I'm thinking that this is what happened, cuz it just did this after I got the stall converter installed. I have that catch can, so it should not be consuming oil, but I have noticed the oil pressure gauge reading higher. What should I do?
