Just because you potentially got away with it before doesn't mean you will get away with it everytime.

It's not a game off odds.

It boils down to enough oil pressure. If the motor can't keep enough oil pressure, it can't maintain the clearances b/w opposing metal objects it was designed to do, this decrease in clearance if decreased enough will allow metal to metal contact. This causes bearing damage. Bearing damage makes you more prone to bearing failure at a faster rate.
