Default T-Rex Cam Question.

"Thunder Racing Custom Camshaft - T-ReX v.2 - 242/248 - .608/.612 - 110 lsa 3500-6700 RPM Power Band. Violent mid-range & high RPM power. Requires computer tuning, 4000+ converter on autos, 4.10's or greater on manual trans cars. Due to the fast ramp rate of this camshaft, the use of 1.8 rockers is not recommended. Due to the extreme nature of this camshaft, piston to valve clearance must be verified when using modified cylinder heads."

Would 3.73s work?

Since he's an auto he has the shift extension from his stall to keep his rpm's up.

3.73's will work, but 4.10's will work better.

BIG CAM + Daily = wrong move.
Big cams will not be daily friendly no matter how much you tune. I wouldn't daily a T-Rex b/c to make it more friendly you would not be using it to it's full potential (i.e. not using it in it's powerband).

ohhhhhh see I learn something new everyday so how far do they go in the powerband?

P.S. Would it actually hurt the car performance wise if you didn't keep it in WOT with the T-Rex cam in it since it likes to be up there in the RPMs?

It will pull to 7000 RPM. Maybe even a little higher.

it wont hurt anything but it'd just be kind of a waste because you wouldnt be taking advantage of the cams powerband. check my cam guide for basics.

i have this cam in a daily deiven car but i never have to drive it far. driveability is fine but the gas mileage is horrible personally i dont mind but if you do alot of driving and care about gas mileage i would go with something else. and i am a 6-speed and i wouldnt want to drive it without 4.10s it would be a pain in the ***. if these are things you can deal with this cam is amazing power wise.

I've seen this cam tuned into something very daily driveable. Just find someone who really knows how to tune to VE table and spark advance tables. 3.73's are fine for a automatic. Don't expect the 4l60e to last long though.

Go for it! I have a cam from MTI (close to T-rex numbers)and we pulled 441rwhp and 403rwtq with my A4. Now we sprayed it with 150 shot and got 650rwhp and 660rwtq. My Tranny is built by Century and is holding up pretty good. Granted I don`t spray all the time. Just against the big boys This is with stock bottom-end. We did fly cut the pistons.

4.10s are mainly track gears are they not?

That's an opinion question. I don't think so at all. 3:73 and 4:10 gears are streetable gears for modded cars.

When I think of track gears I think of 4:30 and 4:56 gears. But this is just an opinion, anyone disagree?

If the car is an M6 i would still consider a 4.88 a street gear, but for A4's 3.73 is about as far as i would go for a daily driven street car. M6's are a whole 'nother ball game though, that .5:1 6th gear rocks.

I dunno could be me but I heard with 4.10s you would be crusing around at 60 mph at like 5th gear or something since the gears are sooo short.

Whatever. I street mine every day. The tune makes all the difference, but what do I know, I just drive it every day. My cam is even bigger then the trex specs. 244/249 on a 109.4 LSA

I use 3.89s in my stalled auto with M/T DRs. You can street it with less but to get the most out of it you need higher gears and a bigger stall.
