I just wanted to know what RPMs all the piston slap occurs at. I have heard the pistonslap.com file and that vehicle slaps badly at idle. Mine makes no odd noises at all on start up, never when idling, cold or warm. What it does do when cold is make a clatter type noise at about 2500-2900 RPM when cold. It also sounds extra loud in the first minute or so of running (not a clatter though). Once fully warmed up is not noticeable. Is this piston slap? My car is a stock 2001 SS convertible and 20000 miles, so lots of sounds are pretty apparent (boomy car).
I hear people with trucks seem to have piston slap at many engine speeds and worse during acceleration? Mine is not like that at all. In fact if I lay into it at those RPMs when cold, it sounds almost like its not there, not sure why. If I had an A4 instead of the M6 I probably would never hear it since the auto would shift under light throttle much earlier than I do.
My car seems to be built late in 2001, in August if that affects anything. Also it sounds like all cylinders, not just a couple.
