Default 112+4 compared to a 112+2.

The F13 vs. F14 thread I started had some great info on these cams and the ICL's and LSA's that make the most power. Lets get something going for just this part of the camshaft. How much better low end does the +4 (108 icl) has over the +2 (110) and how much more power will the +2 make up top than the +4. Is it a substanial difference. I don't want to turn the car past 6800 and would like to shift at 6600 so which one would fit my application better with a F13? Thanks fellas!

John

Advance dosen't make more or less power. It's purpose is to move the power band in the RPM range to fit certain applacations. For the application you are stating, +4 will make the power lower in the rpm range and peak sooner, probablly right where you want it to.

and john, the difference between the two will not be substantial. if you overlayed them both all things being identical the curves would look almost identical.

I don't quite agree with the fact stated that advancing a cam has no effect on power. The more advance = more overlap and a slight reduction in power.
In general it is ~ 2rwhp for every advanced degree.

I have a StealthII on a 116+0, I tried advancing it 116+4 and I lost ~10rwhp. at peak of course but gained a little under the curve.

If you shift the power band up into the RPM band you will make a higher torque number above 5250rpm.. what does that equal? A higher peak HP number. If you have two cams on a given LSA, the one that is advanced more will always make less peak HP (up to a given point) A 114+0 will make more HP than a 114+4 any day. Notice what AFR suggests to use on their 205 heads, 224/228 114 +1, for a 113ICL. None of those combos have had trouble making low end torque.

I just ordered the 112+4. I'm not running a gear right now and wanted to make alittle more down low to keep the car from being a dog in 1st gear. Also didn't want to shift over 6600 and Alan suggested the +4 as a better fit for my needs, even if I gear it later. We can give it a shot and later try the +2 and redyno.

You may gain a small bit of power, but nothing substantial. All this comes at the cost of higher revs also.
