with the a4 i woudl def. overdrive it. you might have just put too much strain on it and its starting to crap out. i still wouldnt rule out belt tension, that was a great point

Just get the overdrive alt pulley. I had a similar problem and it got rid of it.

I don't have that problem. But I do have the katech belt tensioner so maybe that makes a difference. My underdrive pulley is the March one. I did not install the alt pulley that came with the set, I left the stock alt pulley on it.

My air shuts off; you can feel it in the car because it stops blowing cold air.

Looks like only $23.00 for overdrive alternator pulley. I'm going to get it. I can DEFINITELY afford 23.00

When you open the hood after driving pretty hard, do you ever notice some fine black material on the engine? Looks like black dirts but if you touch it, its kinda soft? If so thats the belt slipping. Next time you romp on it, take a look.

Yeah there's an electrically operated clutch in the pulley and it gets cycled off when you go wot. (actually I think it's a tps % range in the pcm if I remember right, might be anything above 96%, I'd have to look in my hptuners to be sure...)

No black material on engine. And the saga continues, I floored car today, and battery was not charging AT ALL llike alternator was sticking, I drove around floored it again, and alternator started acting normal. Weird. I'm thinking bad alternator, and awaiting my OD pulley order.

Belts are not slipping. Nice and tight, with more room on the tensioner. These belts came from Tbyrne.com along with my alternator pulley.

John, yes, you can computer control when the ac clutch kicks on and off. In fact, I do it through HP Tuners. You can set it to whatever you want.

ok, I was driving home last night normal speed and noticed my headlights flickering. I was looking on pep boys and they want like $130 for new alternator. Is there anywhere cheaper to get one?

Also what is stock amperage of our alternators (2001 camaro SS)

Finally, what gain if any would I Have by going to higher amperage alternator? Thanks.
