Unhappy weird stuff inside Oil Cap

I had to add some oil tonight, so i took off the cap and i noticed inside the cap that there is some yellowish/white creamy stuff (no, nobody was jerkin off in my engine )

i smelled it and it almost smells like gas. i burnt my nose hairs lol.

anybody got any ideas what it might be? and if i should worry.

thanks

You better pray you didnt crack the heads or blow a head gasket. That may be antifreeze leaking into your engine gunking up! Though I believe I heard of someone else having this problem dont remember what it was....??? Can someone help him out?

It's water from an internal leak, crack or just very cold oil temperatures. Not a good thing.

when i went to bakersfield last weekend to Famoso to race. it was pretty cold out. There was ice all over the car and was pretty thick. i wonder if its from that.
I didnt start the car until the temp was about 34F degrees out though.

It happens alot when cars are only driven short distances. Its can be caused by an internal leak but often occurs from normal condensation. This is very common on the dodge magnum 4.7.

a guy at work is telling me to wipe the cap off and then run the car at idle for a 1/2hour and see if it comes back.. is this a good idea?

You can do that but it will likely take alot longer. If you have an internal leak the oil level would be abnormally high. I have had a little bit of the white sludge on my cap at times and when I did a leak down check it was less than 5%. Usually there is only a very small amount. If you have alot then you may have a problem. The 4.7 magnums have a recess in the cap thats about an inch deep and it will fill completely with the stuff

when the motor cools, condensation occurs in the motor, just like it does in the fall evening...

normally, when the engine warms up, that water evaporates into steam, and goes out thru the PCV system.

if the engine is driven only in very cold temps, or if its only driven a short distance at a time, it never heats up enough to evaporate that water.

when that water sits in the motor, it makes that creamy yellow goo.
it also builds up in any place where the steam cant escape...like the magnum cap mentioned above.

i would wipe it off, drive the car, and see if it comes back.

also, id be looking at the coolent, and oil.. just in case.

It is very common in LS1's. I work at a Vette Dealership, and almost if not all of our cars have that same condition.

i dont know if this helps, but i put on the AMW catch can and i check it all the time and there isnt a drop of oil in it.

i had alot of oil consumption after the heads installed but not lately

Ok I had the exact same issue you are describing and I had a hole in my #7 piston. I dont know where poeple are getting this its a common thing in LS1s. I have owned 2 and have never had it until the piston issue. My friend owned one and never had it and all 50 + members of our car club that is 90% LS1s have never had it. Chances are you are leaking a small amount of coolant internally. I would have the compression checked, its easy to do, and go from there.

It's normal. Many LS1's do it, low mileage, high mileage, new cars, old cars, stock cars, heavily modified cars. I wouldn't worry. Seems to only happen to me in the cold.

In my other LS1, i pulled the cap and looked inside of it and there was nothing. it also has 90,000 miles, but its never seen the cold weather that the white one saw last week.

Mine did it, I check the coolant level and it was full, no water in my AMW catch can either, so I cleaned it and went on my marry way. Its condesation from the steam, I make really short trips to work and its been like under 40 somedays here lately in DFW. Im just gonna keep my eye on it.

Mine did it forever......is is cause by normal condisation.......I see it all the time at work.

I noticed mine doing it about 2 years ago......you will be fine. If you are worried about coolant or something else in the motor just drain the oil and look at it.

All of them do it.

I have had 3 LS1 cars and my father owns an LS6 car and all of them get that ...gunk under the cap over time. Kinda like slimy light coffee colored crap.
