Default Which cam should i go with

I want one of these two cams.

Comp 216/220 .525/.532 114LSA or an 02+ LS6 cam?

Reason im looking at these cams is because i dont ever want to worry about checking or swapping springs once the cam has been swapped.

Will either of these cams work well with my current mods. Also, later on i will be moving up to 4.11's

or open for suggestions on another cam

just get some headers. with the springs and tools available today theres really no reason to justify such a small cam. hell, i know guys who got 40k miles relatively easy with there b1/t1 cams and 918's.

but yes either of those cams will work well with your mods. just depends on what your looking for.

Out of my two cams listed. Which one would have a slight advantage over one another?

the '02 LS6 cam has high lift, so there goes ur low lift theory... i would try something like a TR220/114, which has a modest .553" lift, and some 918's, and that should last a good 40,000 miles, and give more power everywhere over the LS6 cam...

The '02 ls6 cam's lift is nothing to worry about. '02+ Ls6 springs + ls6 cam = no spring changes ever.

A low lift cam that makes great power and tq is the GMPP ASA cam. SDPC----->
ASA + Comp 918's will last forever.

The T1 has lazier ramp rates than the B1 if I'm not mistaken. Both perform similarly. Call MTI for details.

Like SouthFL.02.SS said: LS6 cam is not a high lift cam at all (from today's standards). If I remember correctly, its .547/.551 or something like that with soft ramp rates. With LS6 springs, You virtually have the same valvetrain combo that the stock Z06'ers have. Get either of the cams you listed and cc918 or LS6 springs and You'll never change your valvesprings again!

Carcraft did an article on GMPP Hotcam, and they mention the ASA cam. They said the ASA cam requires you to cut deeper reliefs in the pistons. How is that low lift?

no fly cutting is required for the ASA, you must of read or interperated wrong.

Maybe, but the article is here in front of me, here is an exert ..."GMPP offers a bigger ASA cam, but it requires deeper valve reliefs be machined in the pistons"

maybe there thinking of the grand am cam. the ASA (228/236 .525/.525 110) or whatever it is does not require fly cutting.

This GMPP ASA cam whats the LSA i can get this at? Im looking for 114 because i need it to pass cali smog. I believe the ASA cam is 110 LSA.

Will i need tuning to run the cam or could i drive around without tunning for awhile. This cam will be going into a daily driver.

What cam would you guys recommend me getting for a nice daily driver that i can race at the track and on the weekends. Which will go well with my mods and possibly with a 12 bolt & 4.11's down the road. I also need it to pass cali smog. my biggest thing is I dont want to worry about the springs

Also, what do you guys think of The Hotcam is 219/228 .525 .525 112 LSA?
Will it pass cali smog. I thought anything under 114 is harder to pass cali smog if at all? But it will definetly need a tune

Or even the TR220 cam?

well that changes everything, should of stated that from the beginning.

forget the HC, not emissions friendly. i agree with your choices then, add any 216* to 224* cam witth negative overlap and you should be good to go.

So which would be a better choice?

the Ls6 cam 204/218 .551/.547 117.5 LSA?
Comp 216 / 220 .525 / .532 114 LSA ?
TR 220/220 .551/.551 114 LSA ?

I will have to change the springs @ 20k miles possibly even worry about the springs before 20k miles. How often do i need to check up on the springs if i had the TR 224 cam? Every 6k miles?

not even, with the tr224 and a good dual spring you should easily surpass 20k miles. the ramp rates are in between an XE and XE-R. and dont be so hung up on changing springs. with the right tool, there a piece of cake. the crane one even lets you do two at once.

the TR224 is gonna net u more power but if u want a sleeper u should go for the 220 it gives great pwer gains but it quite enough and idles just fine and drives very well.

I ordered the same cam (216/218 .525/.532 114LSA) for my '01 z28. I also bought the LS6 valve springs from comp cams which is also the recommended spring. I then bought titanium retainer, manley hardened push rods, timing chain and gasket kit. I haven't put mine in yet, but they are all long lasting matched parts. I was looking for torque and power increase along with a maintaining in driveability. This one seemed like the best power increase for the money and conditions. I will be changing mine the first week of january and tuning it by March. I will let you know how it turns out. by the way, the cam is a mild one, nothing fiercely aggresive.
