How many quarts of oil do you put in your car?

And yes, I read it, and still use 6 quarts with a long filter. I also drag race my car on occassion. They forgot to include that section in there. I made it down the track none-the-less.

I prime the K&N HP-1007 with half a quart of Mobile 1 5w-30 then dump 5 more into the engine. Total = 5.5 quarts, which is what the LS-1 engine specifies and the dip stick reads full every time I check.

One extra quart if I'll be autocrossing or running on a road course, to prevent oil starvation on left turns...
The pan itself can hold 7 quarts without touching the crank, and that's before the filter gets loaded up... Although I would not want to run that much for fear of aerating the oil.

When I was doing my engine swap, and I had the oil pan off, I filled the oil pan with 1 quart of water at a time, to see where the water level came up to... In the front of the pan is a dimple for the crank. 7 qts of water just comes to the dimple.
Here is the pan with 7 qts in it:

And here with 6 qts in it for comparison:

Who told you to do this, and why doesn't a reputable manufacturer make a wet sump pan suitable for roadcourse or autocross, instead of drag racing only?
Acceleration or deceleration will change the level though, at one end of the pan.
I read up on the oil starvation in a few places, the only one I can think of right now is frrax.com though. Typically it's in long left sweepers. There is more gap around the baffle on the right side of the pan, so I suspect that lets the oil go up that side easier... 15w40 is supposed to help with that problem, I read that's what one of the racing schools started running after blowing a few engines.
Good question about the aftermarket offerings.
The 6.5 I mentioned earlier, is 6.5 total, where .5 is in the filter and 6 is in the pan. (didn't think I had said it very clearly in the earlier post).

I go by the dipstick and its takes 5 and 1/2 on mine, I can't believe that anyone would ever have to put 6 in it to fill it. although alot of people don't understand the dipsticks that gm uses, any where on the x's is exceptable above the x's is overfull. I get about 3/4 the distance between the top and bottom of the x's with 5 1/2 quarts and don't have any oil consuption to speak of so I don't worry about the room I have to spare. although it wouldn't take but 1/16 to 1/8 of a quart to get it to the top of the x's from where i am.
I wouldn't use a long filter if you go over speed bumps or anything like that often believe me not good. 1000 miles after an oil change and all my oil was on the ground under the car running out from the oil filter after hitting a bump where some gravel washed out. luckily I got it shut down before anything else happened when I saw smoke and the oil pressure start to fall.

Since my car is lowered 1.5" I stopped using the long filter and switched back to the standard one. I use 6 full quarts and will add an additional 1/2 quart for the track.
