motor balancing ?

i work at a turbomachinery repair shop and we balance some of the smaller pinion gears we get, down to .003 grams.

what do car motors get balanced too?

HMM restate your question.

I am going to take a stab at it though.
You balcanes the bottom end aka crank pistons and rods. so they do not vibrate them selves to pieces.

My balancer did the rotating assembly to + or - 2 grams. That's pretty good for me i think.

anything that rotates should be balanced.

I think he means what kind of spec do machine shops try and balance to... I think a gram or two is pretty good. I dont think you need to get it anywhere near as accurate as hundredths or thousandths of a gram. 7K rpm is nothing compared to the 100K+ RPM in turbos.
