Boring 97
How much can you bore a 97 ls1 block. I want to build a 393 stroker (for a 4x4 off-road racer) using a eagle rotating kit and it states a bore size of 3.905. will it be save to hone out this block .0074 as in the book chevy LS1/LS6 performance it states you can only hone a 97 block .004 . Thank for any advise you can give. Any body know how thick the standard liner is ?

The 383 I just finished was cast in 97 and I have also sleeved a 98 block to 4.100 and when the old sleeve was being cut out it seemed to be as thick as the newer blocks- BTW the part of the iron sleeve at the top of the cylinder is decieving, it is no were near that thick on down.

Thanks guys, because this engine is going in my racer I think I,ll chance it on the 97 vette block, and if it grenades itself I suppose I'll have to go the 408 LS2 route as I think this will become a popular option. Just wondered how many other people have gone 3.905" on early blocks. Also because I'm building this 393 mainly for torque and keep engine revs below 5800 do you think a stock cam will be ok. I really don't want to turn it into a screamer. I want loads of grunt between 1500 - 5000. What about a 02 LS6 cam?
