Go bigger. That cam is good for smaller motors. But it would be mild in a good stroker. Big is better.

The t-rex is still a decent sized cam for a 383, it would make a good daily driver cam. However if you're going for something more aggressive with your setup you'll want to look into something a little larger.

This is not ture. When you go with a bigger cam u start losing low end TQ. So you lose the driveabilety of the car. If you are going for a straight race car yaa go for a huge *** cam. If you want something that u can drive everyday the T-Rex is about as big as i would go.

why would you want to do that?? the TRex was DESIGNED for STOCK heads. get a custom ground cam.

Before picking a cam for your 383, there are other things to think about like how much do the heads flow and how high do you want to spin the engine?

how about spinning to 6200-6400 range, and for the heads i would say maybe a set of Patriot or similar stage III ls6 heads with 11.7 compression?

Also you have a truck not a F-body. So I would first pick a nice set of stage 2 heads (LS6), forget Patriot, like MTI Stage 2E and then I would match a cam with a lot of low end torque potential.
VINCI >>> sponsor has some good torquer cams.

EXACTLY!!

There are hundreds of cam combos better than a T-Rex for a stroker build with ported heads.

The T-Rex is a GREAT cam but is specifically designed for stock Ls1 heads.

i'm not too impressed with the trex. i just put one in for a friend that only picked up 20rwhp over an ls6 cam. my t1 cam in an automatic makes 3 rwhp more than his trex m6 car

A lot of people know that I'm not a big cam fan, but in defense of the T-REX, that doesn't sound right. His setup must be choked somewhere.
Can you describe his full mods?

99 z-28
mac mids with a cut out at the collector
ls6 intake
4.10 gears
slp pulley
lid
g force dyno tune
i know that the macs are hurting him for power, but not 70 rwhp. i never expected he would hit the 450rwhp that thunder got, but i did expect him to break 400. he dynoed 382rwhp after a tune.

99 heads will loose him a few over 241 castings.
MACs will also if they weren't modified.
What about his clutch, was it holding tight? But Ive seen these numbers with T-rex before.
Any injector mod? 99 (26.4) would be close to max out at peak efficiency with a cam like that.
How about fuel pressure. Was it measured 58 psi at the rail and maintaining?
Shoot a clogged F filter will loose you 20 ponies if not diagnosed.

he still has stock injectors and we didn't measure the fuel pressure. with as well has this gentleman takes care fo his car, the fuel filter very well might be clogged. i'm currently out of town, but when i get back there are some things i'm going to check out. i'm doing a clutch in it when ever it shows up (he ordered it over a month ago) but i didn't notice it slipping when i was driving it. i just know that the owner was pissed when he found out he only picked up 20 rwhp over an ls6 cam.

Bigger does NOT always mean better

That being said, formulate a combo for your 383. Do not throw parts at it.

Your right, don`t throw parts at it! But a stroker will take a big cam. My cam is big for a stock cube motor. But in a stroker it would be mild. You can go bigger and not have the issues I have with mine. But everything needs to work together as a package. Thats true!
