I know people are having good luck with the 6.0 liter truck heads (LQ9) that came on Escalades and possibly some other trucks. They have a ~72cc chamber, versus the LS1's stock 66.6cc chamber, so it lowers the compression ratio to around 9:1. I don't know which way to point you for a cam though, sorry.

P.S. there is a sticky at the top of this forum that has Compression Ratios vs. Combustion Chamber size

Well, its not so much a matter of being "safe," rather how much boost you want to run. You can be safe with your stock heads, as long as you keep boost down to around 6-8 lbs. Now, to achieve a 70cc chamber you would most likely have to mill LQ9 heads (I cant think of any 70cc LS1 heads), so you may as well just use the 72cc chambers and run slightly more boost. Hope this helps.

6.0 head with stock gasket will put you in the 9.7 cr range, not 9.1. you'll need dished pistons for that.

if your keeping the stock bottom end i'd get some nicely ported 6.0 heads, and maybe a 220/224, 224/228, 224/230 115-117 lsa cam.

Wow, I was always under the impression that the LQ9 heads put you in the bottom 9's. Good to always be certain on these kinds of things.
