Default Z06 Head&Cam Swap

Ok a friend of mines dad has a Z06. Hes getting heads and cam from MTI i was wondering???

1. if i put his head and cam on my car what numbers would i put out?

2. would i get more power out of a aftermarket cam then the h/c swap?

3. He has a NX system on his z06, is his h/c still good to use on my non-aspriated??

install the heads and get an aftermarket cam. depending on size and tune i could see a healthy 50rwhp gain.

an easy 50rwhp, especially with an aftermarket cam that has typical gains of 40-50rwhp. LS6 heads are hard to beat when they're a good deal.

Keep the heads! If you have the cash, have them sent out for a Stage 2.5 treatment by TEA.
Match a nice aftermarket cam to the heads and you're set.

If you don't have the cash, install the heads and cam as is and you're looking at some decent power increase anyhow. Most f-bod A4 guys running an ls6 cam on ls1 heads will be putting down about 350-360rwhp. With the ls6 heads, you'll see about 375ish rwhp.

Look into a stall also.

Default Mti

MTI charges $1200 Core for the heads if he doesn't give them his originals.

Depending on how you are in the cash department, you also need to replace the valve springs if you are going with something other than the LS6 cam. The LS6 cam isn't that bad really. If you can do a cam but don't want to do springs for whatever reason the biggest cam you can safely go on LS6 springs is 216/220 with like a 525 534 lift or something like that. You didn't mention what year of car your friend's is. I think there is a difference of springs in the 01 motor which isn't as good. The 01 motor also has a much less agressive cam, which I wouldn't bother opening the motor up for really. There might be other issues if the car is an 01 that I'm unaware of. Others should chime in and give you alittle more info. Eithor way, if he is giving you the heads GRAB EM.

the biggest cam you can do on ls6 springs is the GMPP ASA cam, which is a great cam.

he's gonna have to take the heads off anyhow so might as well do valve springs and pushrods while they are off...i'm sure it will make it a little easier

Get the heads, Have them refreshed with 918's, mild porting and valve job.
Get a TR224 and go to town.
