Removing the mains

take all the bolts out, then reinstall 2 of them just enought to get them started. Maybe 3 or 4 threads worth.
Then pull and wiggle the caps up. The thrust bearing (#3 main) is a PITA. You might need to lightly pryup on it w/ a small pry bar or long socket extension to help it out.

I have pound and wiggle on #1 and it barely budges. This is my first time so I don't have the right feel for what to expect here. If I use a pry bar I am concerned about marring the internals such as the block side of the mains.
I have tried a hard rubber mallet and a hammer using a block of wood and the caps are not moving.
Any suggestions?

I have now tried using a breaker bar in the ends (ears?) of the main and I have just beat the living hell out of it. I have gotten them to move 1/8 of an inch. My arms are bigger than allot of people's legs so I am not gettin this. The metal is taking a beating but the damn things aren't moving!
