the only thing with that is theres already an extra $300 spent, larger ports, larger valves...your saying to hand smooth them to get an extra few cfm of flow? I would hope a more expensive head would outflow a less expensive one any which way...and with the ls6 intake strapped on the ffhp outflowed the pp even more.

damn you saying that comparison was done with PP larger valves yea that does kinda suck, well good thing i din't spend extra money on larger valves, to bad that my heads will flow even worts than that, good thing i don't have a large cam to take adbantage of great flow (well not great but if i did have it i be kicking my self in the rear right now.) and last of all i guess is about time to whip out the ole polishing kit

Where can I buy those TEA heads for $1095. The price on their website is 1600+

Also, were the Patriot heads hand finished like the TEA heads?

Damn Jerami thats pretty cool, I keep thinking that those TEA heads with my old TR 224 .563 lift cam would have been a really good combo.

The only question that keeps coming to mind is why do the huge camshafts always produce more power? Maybe we are not even utilizing the max flow numbers anyways i.e the motor can't suck as much as air in as the flow bench can push?

JRP, great job on the article and the data. Many times I've posted the flow data thru the intake is far more important in giving an idea about what the head is capable of. I'm not surprised in the least by the better flow bench results of the FFHP/TEA S1 head with smaller intake port volume and smaller intake valves vs the PP S2 LS6 style head with the intake in place.

Yep... they hand finish them, which turns them into much better head.

Correct. The Patriot heads FFHP gets do not take a trip to TEA lol. You're getting one or the other depending on what you want to spend.

i bought mine from brad during a GP and the price was 1295 out right no core, plus they'd refund 250 if you sent them your core. after i paid ~40 dollars shipping the total price i paid for the heads ended up at 1085, not a bad deal if you ask me.

FFHP has there CNC'ing done by either PP or TEA, the set i chose just happened to be TEA. Brad then lightly hand finished them up, its not extensive work, and then assembled the heads.

yes, in this test the FFHP/TEA faired better, but dont believe that there **** dont stink. I think the PP's have great potential, buying a PP casting and doing a bit of work (better valve job, clean up the ports a bit, upgrading to Manley valves) and you have a great head and still come in at a lower price then some competitors.

if i remember right Gunnar said these PP hads had little to no hand finishing.

I have been watching this thread and now would like to say a couple of things;
first I would like to thank Jerami (jrp) for the great write up and for using our heads as part of the testing. It is always good to see folks doing detailed research to find the product that fits their needs, we always encourage that.

To clear up any seeming confusion we use either PP or TEA for our cnc work, mostly we use PP and get bare cnc'd heads from them and then do our thing here.

As jrp says the PP heads once hand finished are flowing quite well. If I recall correctly (I am not at the shop at the moment) we are seeing like 317cfm(intake) and 237cfm(exhaust) @.600 on the LS6 style stage 2's with the 2.055/1.60 valves. Though we don't really look just for peak flow, we work to setup the heads to meet the customers needs.

hmmm. I have a question for ya Scott. I got a f13 for xmas with the whole valve spring kit. I would like a set of heads but im not crazy about trying to sell my valve spring kit after i buy a set of heads. If i send you my kit to use, what kind of deal would you cut me on a set of your hand finished heads with the 2.02 manley valves? Just wondering. If your not interested thats fine, it never hurts to ask. If you are just pm me. Thanks

So another head that can't get more than 260cfm through a LS6 intake? But what do I know lets see some more 240cc runner volumes just to hit 320cfm. Good test man.

I have a set of FFHP LS6 style heads, which I spoke with Brad about before purchasing.

They're pp castings, cnc'd, then hand blended & assembled by FFHP.

Default Hand Finishing

How would I go about hand finishing PP heads and would doing this be worth the work? We are talking about polishing right? If yes what tools are required?
