Unhappy 6.0 Iron Blocks

Has anyone been having oil pressure issues with their 6.0 iron blocks? I had a 370 built for me and I noticed an oil pressure issue the first time I started it. This problem ended up being a bad cam bearing. The company tore the motor down and replaced the cam bearing and it has been running great. Just tonight I was driving my car and noticed my oil pressure is now really low again below the first mark on the gauge. I can get it to rise a little above the first mark when I rev it but that’s it. The oil pressure was above 40 all of the time before this issue. Do you think cam bearings again? I will be calling the company tomorrow to discuss the issue. I will keep the companies name out of this for now but it is a recommended engine builder from this site.

edit:

The oil looks good and there are no shavings on the oil plug this time so I am not sure if it is a cam bearing???

My 370cid makes great oil pressure, always has. It spins VERY freely (ie. turn the balancer by hand with the heads off) but makes really good pressure (58psi hot idle).

I have a friend that had the same problem and his motor went boom. He had a '04 6.0 block. Something is up with the cam bearings in them. Supposively something is different about them.

I have herd of issues with the cam bearings too. benkey got a new set from GM for his big 408 build and they already had copper showing. He got aftermarket ones. I think durabond then coated them...I could be wrong about the name brand though.

Durabond is a bit on the big side and will cause a lower oil pressure. When I got my new GM LS6 block, the cam bearings already had copper showing (which is usually a bad sign), but I was told that GM line hones the cam journal for truenss.

I'd like to know more about the cam bearing issues.

Should I replace my stock GM's with Federal Moguls? Block is out right now.

what is the oil pressure at WOT,

There is a plunger in the back og the block that diverts oil back in, sometimes it falls out when the motor is hot tanked for cleaning. have them check that, or your oil pump could be on the way out.

Sending unit is brand new. They are sending me a new oil pump we are going to try that route first before dropping the motor.

Hey Kane... If you do discover it is a cam bearing.. call Brett at Combination and discuss the roller cam bearing option.. im seriously thinking about it for my 408 you'll need a special cam to fit the roller bearings but it might be a worth while concideration

On my stock block (before it went boom), my oil presure dropped like way down to the first tic on the display. Come to findout it was a main bearing. Was the motor making any noises or knocking? Also, double check that pick-up tube and make sure int not bottoming out on the pan.
Never had an issue with my 408 from HPE, I know they use after market bearning too.

I used the Federal Moguls on an 01 block with no issues. Presure is 35-40 at idle and up to 65 at wot. Using the katech oil pump.
