I was changin my springs today and on cylinder number 5 the valve stem got caught under the retainer and I turned down on it a couple turns. I am using the crane cams valve spring tool. I probably only turned the ratchet a few times as I was watching to see if it would come up through the retainer or not...I then realized it was off more than I thought and was under the retainer.

I am paranoid as hell right now...will someone give me some advise please???

 

How much load was on the rachet? TDC method used to keep valves in heads? Air up cylinder after install and check for leakage, should be ok

 

It was the tdc method. Their wasnt any more load on the ratchet than I would notice than when pushing the springs down normally. It is not even hard at all to push the springs down with this tool...maybe like 5 ft pounds to turn the ratchet. I am thinking I would have noticed it getting harder to turn if I was bending the valve...are they really soft and easily bent?
I had some cotton rope crammed in the hole but dont know if I had enough in it to catch the valve or not...so I dont know if this saved me.

 

Probably fine, just air up and check. No, valves are very durable pieces

 

So what should I look for?

Will I just hear air hissing out of the head in that valve or what?

It was also the valve on the left. Is this intake or exhaust? If so...which one is a larger diameter? Hoping it is the smaller one so that it might not have gotten down to the piston. The edge of the bigger one would hit sooner...I would guess.
