Default magic or not

What are your opinions of the tsp 233/239 vs the "magic stick" from tsp. Will the magic stick put down more power and is it streetable on a daily driver. can It be used with after market heads, and hows the piston to valve clearence. Thanks for any help.

It depends on your view of streetable. Me i just gave up on ****. I will never go T-rex size but i woud put the magic stick in. The cam will work with prted heads as long as they are not milled.

From what I read around, the 233/239 is more streetable.

Probably true, but the difference in streetablity couldn't be huge with only 3 degrees difference in duration. I say go for it and put in the Magic Stick.

That couldn't be further from the truth based on your deduction.

DURATION IS NOT THE ONLY THING AFFECTING STRETABILITY.

Valve events and lsa (overlap) also play a major role.

Absolutely correct. But the Magic Stick also has some real fast ramps, so I believe it is still pretty streetable. I guess you pay for that by having to relplace springs often, but hey, you don't get something for nothing.

Also, most of the good cams nowadays do have fast ramps, so you are replacing springs no mater what you get. So might as well go for it and get the Magic Stick, which was my point to start with.

The power difference between the 233/239 and MS3 camshafts will vary some depending on modifications, but on average the MS3 is going to put down another 10-15 RWHP. We have quite a few customers running our MS3 camshaft in their only mode of transportation. One of our employees, Brian, is running it in his '01 Z28, and he drives it rain or shine. If you have all of the bolt-ons in place, the MS3 will consistently add 60-65 RWHP with stock heads and a good tune. Tuning is critical because it will make or break the setup with respect to both drivability and performance. P-to-V clearance with the MS3 is fine with stock cylinder heads, but it can get tight with aftermarket heads, depending on which head you're using, valve sizes, etc. If you are running an AFR 205, you'll actually GAIN .015" p-to-v clearance over a factory cylinder head due to the thicker deck. We installed a set of AFR 205 heads on a customer's car on Tuesday and put down 455 RWHP with the MS3 cam while turning a Moser 12-bolt with 4.30:1 gears!

Feel free to give me a call or shoot me an e-mail at trevor@texas-speed.com if you have any questions or concerns. I'll be glad to help ya out.
