My track times seem to agree, but I still run a 160 with the fans set to come on at 179,etc.etc. and depending on the weather you can let the car warm up or cool down faster,get the benifits of both worlds. Its all in the details.

My best mph and ET is usually the first two runs of the night when the car is hot from driving to the track, sitting in line to get in, sitting in the tech line ,etc. Later on when the weather cools off the car goes slightly slower, but that's also when there's an hour or more between rounds, so the car cools off. Always baffled me why the car would go slower in better weather, but maybe it's my 160 thermostat

I put it in because down here in S Florida, summer driving and my aggressive tune would induce alot of knock retard. The 160 thermo helped that.

160 thermo with tuning here. Side effects? Well the oil is suppost to get hot to evap things like gas in your oil. I change my oil ever 3k so it doenst really matter.

That's what I've read as well. It becomes a must to change oil more frequently because the contaminants are not "cooked" off like they would be with a stock thermostat.

160 here on both cars.fan settings via ls1 edit.the m6 has a manual on/off switch.

160. I see temps from 180-187 depending on how fast I drive. Temp doesn't seem to affect it as I've seen those temps in 30 degree days as well as 70 degree days.

i run a 160 eith tuning and mine has not buged from 162 since i put it in about 3 mounths ago, and there have been no side affects that i know of, hell i drive it in single diget temps outside and it does not matter. it is always at 162

There's a difference between "efficiency" and "performance". GM's prime goal is to satisfy the feds, i.e., make less pollutants. Yes, the fuel will be combusted more thoroughly and "efficiently" at a higher temp. But, this temp is too high for peak performance.

Without a diagnostic resource like AutoTap, the stock temp gauge can be wildly off what the engine is actually doing. I run a 160, but AutoTap consistently says 175.

there are many people who have problems after installing the 160 thermostat, the best thing for our cars is keep the stocker, and just program the fans to come on sooner!

I run a 160 here. Seems to run around 180-190 on hot days. Never do I see it run at 160 even during the cool autum.

Mines a stock thermo with the "thermostat mod". (Don't ever hear about that anymore). So basically it's about a 160, but I have the fans turning on earlier via HPP3. Haven't auto tapped in a while but I believe it usually runs around 180 on the highway. I also have a manual hi/lo fan switch.
