Heres another vote for the hotcam. I have mine 3 years now and love it. My car is a daily driver and reliability is a big concern of mine, mainly not having to change springs every year. My car made 385 rwhp through a Moser 12 bolt with 4.11's and traps 117.67 mph in the 1/4. Not too bad in my opinion. Yes I will buy a different cam when I am ready to do a H/C swap but for now the Hotcam is what I am staying with. I am going to try nitrous this summer and they say that the Hotcam is not a bad nitrous cam, we'll see.

I don't think its a bad cam at all. I was thinking about going with it for awhile. The biggest plus is how easy it is on the valvetrain plus the lope.

The GMPP ASA cam is just as easy on the valve train, has an even more wicked lope, and will make better power.

A TRex has more aggressive lobes- that helps with idle quality, but yes, with tuning the ASA is daily driveable.

I love my hotcam. It made the power in sig and I have stock manifolds/y-pipe, stock throttle body, and stock pullies. I don't have any times on it yet because of rearend problems... the 12bolt cured that though, but the tracks closed before I got it fixed. Of course it doesn't make as much power as a bigger cam would. It sounds awesome and I got mine for $200 with springs/shims. If I were you, I wouldn't pay more than $200 for the whole package. Oh and tuning is a really good idea. For me it wasn't required though. I drove it around for a month before I got tuning. It will just hunt for idle a lot and sometimes die when you come to a stop if you have the air on or don't let it find it's idle before driving. Good luck to you!

If I had known that HPTuners was making such awesome tuning software I probably would have bought that instead.

I got my Hotcam Kit brand new for $300 from some one on here who had decided to do something different. Are there "better" cams available? There always are. Am I happy with my car? It brings a smile to my face everytime I fire it up, and go for a ride. Would I do anything different? I would have bought a brand new ASA cam for $175 when I had the chance, but I was not in a good financial position at the time.

If you had a chance to buy a used Hot Cam for under $300 would you purchase it?
If you're spending $300 you can but a good cam in the $2xx range.

Don't get the twatcam/notcam.

It is an old grind, but so is the B1, T1 and C1...no body beats those cams up.
And those make the same power with a much better idle, and run better without tuning!

For the money, the hotcam kit is possibly the best out there as far as a performance outlook

Because I've heard mix opinions on the LS1 Hot Cam and I'm not sure if I should go ahead and purchase it or wait for a better one.
I have that cam, I think it's a great street cam, solid mid range, but i'm getting a new bump stick,
the best time i could get is a 12.9 @ 112.5 untuned with a 2.1 short time.
Good bang for your buck,

Could i make 380rwhp with all the bolt ons with this cam? i want a cam, sometime down the road, but up here, theres not many ls1 shops or whatnot, so i wanted a cam that wasnt gonna break springs or i have to replace them, so the hotcam is really easy on the springs and barring a spring busting by accident, i dont have to replace the springs after the hotcam install?

The whole idea behind the hot cam is great but is it necessary to be that consevative? The 918 springs have become pretty reliable and work great with the tr224 cam. The tr224 is better than the hotcam in everyway and can be had for $200 used. How often would 918 springs need to be changed with that cam? Ive gotten over 20k miles out of mine and my cam has more lift. Maybe 30k is possible with the tr224 cam.

I used think the hotcam was a good idea until I got a more aggressive cam. Now Im glad I didnt waste any time with the hotcam.

The idle is impressive and the reliability issue is nice too, but I hate the idea of leaving power on the table over a few hundred dollars. How much better hp-wise would a 233/239 be on my car than a hotcam (see sig) ???

233/239 will put 20-25hp over a Hotcam (at least).
