Default COMP CAMS XE-R cam...

OK this is my first post and I have been researching and searching the forum for at least a week. I'm looking into putting a cam into my 2004 GTO with a Mangnacharger. I'm considering 3 different cams but all are very close in specs. The one I keep leaning to is the XE-R 224/230 581/588 on a 114 LSA. Just wondering if this will work with out fly cutting pistons. Stock motor besides MC. Thanks for any help advice, and sorry for newbie question, just couldn't find a solid answer.

I just installed a 224/224 581/581 112 and I love it. Didn't need to modify anything internal at all. Swapped valvesprings, pushrods, chain, oil pump, etc... But nothing to the pistons. Car runs ok with out tuning but could really do a lot better with some tuning, that will happen this week.

Flycutting will not be necessary, but you may want to look at a cam that is specifically designed for use in an FI setup.

jub jub,

Do you also have the fast manifold, 90mm tb, and longtubes?

If so, do you have a dyno run?

Thanks,

David

I drove a friend's car with the exact same set-up and I was impressed with the overall drivability of this cam. Idles good and has decent mid range power and you can't argue with 440 hp with basic bolt-ons.

I don't care about times. I just like the way the car runs and sounds!

Pushrods are comp and lifters and rockers are stock, although I'm probably going to change the lifters to Comp-Rs and the rockers to Comp adjustables.

Mike Morris and his crew did a wonderful job!!!

236/239 .600/.610 111 lsa 107 icl. It peaks about 6,300 and it is DONE by 6,500. It think it would work fine with AFR 205's.. BUT there are MUCH better cams out there than the F15. It really hasn't impressed me for as large as it is. Do some searches under my username in the dyno section to see some of my results.

Jeff,

You may want to check out this thread, or maybe you already caught it, over at LS1GTTO.com:

http://www.ls1gto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13413

We just finished up a Maggie'd A4 GTO and added a our Stage 3 supercharger cam. It is a 222/230 115+4 XER cam and she gained 50RWHP. All of the info is in that thread and should help you out.

On jubjub's car, it is actually a 226/230 114+1 XER with the 60cc AFR 205's. The cam AFR suggests with these heads is a 224/228 XER on a 114 and this is just one step up from there. We have had great results with this cam in other applications and wanted to see how it faired with the AFR's.

Hope this helps.

Mike Norris

I had the push rods out the other day and I compared them with the stock. They appeared to be .050" longer just using the eyeball method. Once I put the push rods back in I checked lifter pre-load and it came out to a turn and a half from when the push rod seated in the rocker arm. Anyway, it seems to do the job.

I've read a lot of negative about Comp Rs. I think most of the negativity could be negated by a good set of adjustable rockers. Getting the pre-load set on those is critical. Get them set just right and I'll bet you have a rock solid valve train. BTW, I'm just now starting to educate myself on this stuff since I've had my H/C install. I've had the car back for less than a week!
