Default MTI X1 cam

Just curious how this type of cam would idle and how reliable it would be for a daily driving car. Anybody have personal experience with this cam?

It's a good cam, a lot of people have it. Try PMing NataSS Inc, he has one (or did.)

I had mine on a 112 also. LOVED IT. Just make sure you dont have or use milled heads with this cam. Under 3K it was it "felt" mild. Once it went passed 3K it was like having a 100 shot on the car all the time. Pulled HARD all the way to 6750.

Would you recommend this cam for a daily driving car?

on a 114 LSA, hell yeah. even with a 112 LSA this was fine in stop and go traffic. With a 114 it will be a nice sleeper.

Could this cam be reliable with simply only replacing the valvesprings???

yes. A good double spring will do the trick. Ask MTI what they are running with that cam now days and go with it.

I have a X1 on 114 for sale in the For Sale Section. Less than 1000 miles. It was an awesome cam, and a total sleeper... but too small for my 388 all-bore.

I have the X1 on a 114 and although I don't drive mine that often, I would believe it would be fine for a daily driver. My idle is set at approx. 1100 and it occasionally has trouble on warm starts (coming up, dropping off, and then stalling altogether unless you give it just a little pedal). On cold starts, it will surge for 10-15 secs., then settle down and hold idle. One question...I see a lot of guys with idles at 850-900...does this make it a bit choppier? I'm doing dual StreetPro cutouts while the car is away for winter and would like to maybe drop the idle a bit, especially if it will intensify the lope. 1100 seems a bit conservative to me, and with the limited mileage, perfectly tame street manners are not a paramount concern.

I had mine set at 950. Only surged when cold.

227/230 .591/.571 on 114 lobe
I don't know if this will affect your decision, but I believe the cam is a reverse split:

230/227 .591/.571

not a traditional split (if that's what it's call) like you have listed in your original post.

MTI X1 on a 112 in a 6-speed/tuned by Jayson right here. I've had it in the car for about 10,000 miles now. Im running the Manley spring and retainers along with MTI pushrods daily. Acceptable in traffic, but mine bucks sometimes (i not sure why...spec III and 3.42 gears maybe why...dunno?) Made 396 with bolt-ons.

yeah, its a reverse split.

with the stage 2R LS6 heads and this cam, I made 430rwhp and 406rwtq through a Moser "9. And that was with the computer pulling timing

I run the X1 on a 112 with my setup. MTI mail order tuning. Car drives good even with an A4.

Drivability shouldn't be an issue with a M6
