Default Oil pressure drop after cam install normal?

I've had the cam in for about 6 months now and it seems to idle at about 25psi when its warm, and about 40psi on the highway. I run RP10-40 and before the cam install it always idled at 40psi and about 55 on the highway.

Is this something that happens, or is maybe this cam not fit as tightly in the cam bearings?

I change the oil regular and have not found any metal shavings or anything abnormal.

Typically from what I have read, your oil pressure drops after installing a cam. That's why a lot of people swap the oil pump out for a ported and shimmed one. Personally I did not. I reused my original one but replaced the oil pump pick up tube o-ring. My Oil pressure dropped about 5-10 psi, but I have always had really good pressure. Idling my car has about 40-50 psi and at cruising about 65 psi.

It sounds like the o-ring in the oil pump might have gotten tweaked a bit or your oil pump might be going out. After I put my cam in my oil pressure was fine for about two weeks and started getting lower and lower. I thought it might be the o-ring but I didn't chance it. I changed the pump and took extra care in getting the o-ring in perfect.

I never romoved the oil pump, just a strait cam swap. I guess i will just keep driving it till either it goes out or my 408 gets here.

Probably scored a cam bearing. I did the same thing once. About 2 weeks later oil pressure dropped to zero and spun a main bearing.

Is it possible higher lift cam on smaller base circle grind could uncover more oil feed passage from lifter bodies further distance travelled?
