Default Dyno Results- AFR Heads + Mild Cam

First, just wanted to thank a sponser, Speed Inc, for making this turn key experience a pleasant one!

Car: 02 Formula, 4950 miles
Before Mods: Blackwing lid, GMMG, SFCs, Firehawk Wheels w/KDW tires, otherwise car is bone stock.

Added to the mix: AFR 205 66cc heads out of box, Comp custom 222/222 .581 .581 115lsa XER, moly pushrods, roller master single chain, 160 t-stat, new plugs/wires, and a Vig 2800.

Before: 313 RWHP - 329 RWTQ
After: 376 RWHP - 361 RWTQ

Right about where I thought the car would be, and am pleased with the results . At some point might do headers and free up more power, but for now just looking forward to warmer, drier weather to enjoy the car, and new personal bests at the track come spring.

I'm sorry, but those numbers are pretty weak....
I'm getting very suspicious of Speed Inc's tuning capability.
People get those #'s with cam only (222-224 duration range) and a good tune...

if i read that right, he's runnin the stock manifolds

LT headers, true duals, 90/90 lsx intake/tb combo, pulley, electric waterpump, and some more tuning ... then everything will look a lot different

guys the only engine mods are:

lid
gmmg
ls6 intake
205's w/ stock compression
222/222 .581 112
160 stat

those numbers are great relative to HIS setup. look at how much under the curve power and tq he picked up, its rediculous. with LT, ORY, TB, pulley and retune he's got another 40rwhp easy.

It's also an automatic which show what about 20rwhp or so less than a m6 which we're all used to seeing put up the big numbers.

Don't you people read?? Those numbers aren't weak at all considering the only other mods he has is a lid and catback.

I think you forgot about these things:

-He's an auto
-Stock Headers & Stock y-pipe & cats
-No ported TB
-No pullies
-small 222 cam

You can't just bolt on magic heads and expect huge numbers relative to other cars who have a complete combo. The exhaust is the main big cork on the remaining power in those heads.

Not flaming the guy, but the part about not having headers was not there when I posted. I just asked about the headers because I thought the numbers were a little low considering the heads and cam package. I agree that the numbers would go way up with a nice set of LT's...good numbers for the mods though.

I'll agree to that from first hand experience.

Those are good numbers with an automatic, and no headers. Freeing up the exhaust would pobably give 30 more rwhp at least. Its probably a real nice and quiet sleeper the way it sits.

I had a TR224 in my car with stock manifolds and it ran worse than it did with the Z06 cam. It trapped out at 109mph with the Z06 cam and 108mph with the TR224. It was only an experiment. Soon as I put the headers on the TR224 trapped out at 114mph. This was in an A4. He is bottle necking up a lot of hp in there...

No doubt. Furthermore those numbers may be with an unlocked converter. Even if they are locked those are still good numbers for the mods he has.

I think for the mods he has, those numbers are really good. He picked up 63 hp with the heads, cam, and power robing converter. Congrats!!

Sounds like a great combo, very close to what I'm building right now. How is the idle, can you tell it has a cam in it? Any lope to it? I have the smaller AFR 220/224 XER cam here, but I'm still not sure if I want to install it or something quieter.

How about valvetrain noise? Quiet as stock, or much louder?

Good luck with it!

those are great numbers for an auto with a fairly loose converter, unlocked...(you would get 20+ rwhp with the stock converter locked). For just heads, mild cam and a couple of bolt ons with stock exhaust and stock intake/TB....those are damn nice numbers. Everyone wants to bolt on heads and cam only and run 500 rwhp...it just does'nt happen like that!

the #'s are not too bad for no headers. i made 424.1hp and 408.5tq on the same dyno. i had r.g.r st2 heads,222 cam, mac's and MOST all other boltons. i also did heads and cam with no headers, when i added headers it really woke the car up. goodluck to ya.

that car has plenty of untapped potential, with that "little" horsepower he has I'm sure he'll hit 11's. I rather have a lower horsepower car turn a great et than a higher hp car that puts up a disappointing number.
