Default How to questions for using ARP head-studs

I need some help here. I got the block all clean, and want to install my new head studs, but which studs should I install that ARP thread sealant on? If I install those head studs now with that sealant on them, does that sealant harden up at all? I want be seeing my heads for atleast 2 weeks from now, and i'm not going to be assembling my motor for atleast a month from now. One last thing, to those of you that installed head studs before, what is the torque sequence to use exactly? Thanks everyone.

I think you are referring to the chrome moly lubricant? If, place this on all threads. It is to ensure accurate torque readings for all studs. The lube does not harden.

Torque sequence is here:

As far as torque goes, you will get differing opinions. I use the 3-piece metal gaskets, so I went up to 100 pounds. Most will say less than that. Bolts 11-15 only need 22-25 pounds.

Thanks for the quick response, but won't some of the head studs go into the water jackets though? ARP told me to use the ARP thread Sealer for those studs. And should I just use the thread lube for the top parts of the studs were the nuts tighten down?

LS1 studs/head bolts don't go into the water jackets. That is an LT1 thing I think.

Are you sure? There was alot of coolant in those bolt holes. Well, as I think about it, it could be because went the head came off, coolant spilled everywhere.

Your right, moly. The coolant spills into the holes when you pull the head. Just make sure you blow it all out with compressed air. May want to run a small bore brush in there also.

Maybe one fo those chrome moly brushes <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
