I was originally going to do a TR224, but I keep hearing everyone say, "pick the cam you want, and go one higher". Comments like this are kinda swaying my decision.

This car is my daily driver. I want it to be driveable (I probably only go to the track once a year, one or two stoplite runs/month), but I also want some lope to it. I hear from folks that when the car (w/ a TR224)is tuned, you will have to listen hard to hear the cam. Is true?

My goal is to smoke this guys Z06.

99 SS, Lid, Pacesetter w/ ORY, Hooker Muffler (Cam and 150shot commin).

I'll try to anwer the best I can.

1.) Yes

2.) Yes. But When you change to a different cam, they are designed to be more efficient in 1 of 3 areas. Low RPM's, Mid Rpm's, High RPM's That is why there are converter requirements and power ranges listed for cams. The F13 listed as a "2500-6800 RPM range. SO it's more of a Mid-High RPM cam. That is why you need a higher stalling converter. It putts you in the Power band for the cam.

On a stock converter the car would be slugish and tend to be really doggy. Even when it's in it's power band it will take a while to catch up. It might put down good #'s on a dyno, but it will drive like crap.

3.) From what I've read, you can mess with the idle screw on the TB and get it to idle BUT you will almost need a tune for this cam to make great power. Without a tune it will drive worse ( buck, sputter, stall) and you'll probably only see around 20 RWHP. With a tune and better intake (assuming you have a stock TB and LS1 intake). You can gain another 20 RWHP. Makes it worth it to get it tuned. $400 cam + misc part. $250-500 Custom Dyno tune. Pretty much the same amount of power output for the ame amount of cash, but the car will drive better.

4.)Call Allen at Futral on this. From what I want he suggested a 112 2* advance ground in.

To sum it up and to explain what JRP was getting at; Power and Speed is a COMBINATION OF PARTS.

I see you have a lid, LT, and a cat back. Good places to start. I have a '99 Z28 and am going to an F13 as soon as I'm done with the other mods.. It's seem we are on a similar path so I'll give you my advice. (personnel opinion) You have covered the exhaust side. Now it's time to cover the intake to take advantage of the better breathing from the cam and the other requirments of the cam.

Mod #1 Converter. Any thing around 3200-3500. Vig, TCI, Yank. Best stating mod for an A4 car.

Mod #2 ASP Pulley. EAD===> sponsor. Best Price I have ever seen.

Mod #3 LS6 Intake

Mod #4 Ported TB. Shanner or Janzer.

Mod #5 Cam

Mod #6 Tune

I would advise having the cash available soon after the cam install to get the tune.

Hope I Summed it up for you.

mines now that loose.. on atap when i flashed the car the rpms went straight to 3600-3700 roughly
shift extension was roughly back to 5400-5500 rpms though

overall ive been very happy with the verter... only thing I like bout the yanks is they tend to yeild another good mph on top end.

griffin, go on over to the trans section in here and start finding whats best for you..

id say a vig 3200-3600
yank 3600-4000

Get a torque converter. You won't be sorry. I think you will get more gain with just the stall compared to just the cam. Then you'll be one step closer to a cam and you can match a cam thats power range is right where your stall brings you. This is the route I went and couldn't be happier with my choices so far. Listen to these guys they know thier ****. I was lost until I found this site. Now I'm getting ready to install my first cam. It's amazing what you can learn if you listen to the people with experience.
