Because they're designed like a micrometer, you insert Comp Cam's Pushrod Length Checker in place of a pushrod, and unscrew it until the correct length and geometry is achieved. You then read the height right from the etched markings on the side of the tool, with each revolution equal to .050". This tool makes it less expensive and much faster than any other method used for this critical calculation.
Got this off of thunders website in the description of the checker. Looks pretty self explanitory. it will have marks on it like a ruler. Just put it to the length you think they should be and check preload on the lifter and then adjust it to until you get the desired preload and that is the length you need.

Yea, just set it to where you think it should be, install it, color the valve tip with a black marker, install rocker and check preload, roll over the motor, remove the rocker and check to make shure the "swipe" is centered. Adjust the PR untill you get the desired pre-load.
