lol i've got over 15* overlap with my EDC, by no means smog legal

but yes you could have him grind you a smog grind. the tr224 114 works great though as an OTS cam and i've got smog sheets verifying its passing ability. not a friend of a friend who's uncles brother passed with so and so cam. if you want to play it safe stick with what works.

Hey JRP I know that a lot of states accept other states ET as valid(for students at college, etc.) see if Cali accepts Ga. Ets as valid and I bet no matter what I can get you a Pass

Slow ride, I went through a lot of this same questioning you did to find a cam with AFR 205 heads that would pass smog. Like you, I wanted to try something just a tad bigger than the 224/224, but I couldn't find anyone who had done it. I also talked to many sponsors, several who said I could pass a cam 226/232, 224/230, 228/228, etc.. easy with the right tune. (Some even went so far as to say they had never heard of a cam in this size range NOT passing, which puzzled me - though I could never find any stats to back this, nor could they produce any to prove it - nor would they offer to try and tune for me, and being that it would have to be a mail tune, I don't blame them). Not to say you can't, but if anyone has, they aren't revealing their secret.

So I settled on the 224/224 581/581 114 XER cam. I still have to run through emissions though.

What's the right tune in terms of LTRIMs and timing ? What else can you affect if you're still in closed loop ? I've heard one trick is to retard timing a lot so that cats will heat much above normal but don't know if it really works. That kind of tune is definately for smogging event only...

You should be able to get by. I passed a sniffer locally (using CAT's) in WA State on the rollers and at idle with the Cartek 3X camwhich is rumored to be a low/mid 230's duration camshaft...of course I had to do some tweaking to get it by :>)

Rumored? I don't like the sound of that. Is Wa State the same as Ca.? Tweaking what did that involve? 440 Hp that works for me!!!!!
