Last set several months back from summit, before that, two sets I ordered from speed shop here in town for a class I teach. Do not recall seeing VR logo. Check with Roger at VHP, he is up to speed with these gaskets

Found that thread.

smask04C5: I guess I'll have to believe you since you say you've measured one before and after. Just hard to believe if VR says theirs is .054 and they have the VR # stamped on them. <shrug>

So whats the verdict on these, or is still up for debate? Doesnt matter to me right now, I bought .040" Cometics, but would be nice to know if they are indeed .042" and if not, nice to get MG to update their site to reflect the actual thickness.

Well, if they were miced compressed @ .042 then I'm happy. But now the question is did they change suppliers (and compressed thickness) after these people miced them. The ones I just got have the VR logo on them and next to it is what looks like a VR part #. 5975 for the right side, 5976 for the left. Do those numbers tell us anything?

I'm going to call VR today and see what they can tell me. But everything I've found thus far on the VR 5975/5976 tells me they are .054" compressed. Maybe MrGasket switched suppliers. Who knows. I'll report what I find later today hopefully.

Ok, here's the skinny. Mr. Gasket has pulled a switcheroo on us. My next call is to them. Going to try to find out what happened to the one they were previously supplying.

The are currently supplying a re-packaged VR gasket #5975/5976 under their part number 5713g and 5714g. This is confirmed by me and I spoke with Roger at VHP who also had some in stock to confirm. According to VR tech, this gasket will be right around .053" COMPRESSED give or take a thou. Same gasket as the GM graphite.

Bummer.

You and me both brother. I could've had my car back together last week if I wasn't chasing around trying to get this special gasket. I'd like to kick Mr. Gasket right in the jimmy about now!

I talked to Mr. Gasket Tech. All they said was their catalog still shows the .042" compressed. I told them its wrong. The 'tech' was basically a dumb phone monkey that didn't know anything. I told him they need to get their **** straight.

I think the problem with the FelPro is that the bore size is too big. Other than loosing a small bit of compression, I don't know how much harm that would do though.

OK After everything I went through to get the Mr Gasket head gaskets, I took them back today for a refund. I guess I'll either pay the price for Cometics or do some more research on the FelPro's

Does anyone have any idea what the larger bore size of the Felpro will do other than lower compression slightly?

preiginition and/or detonation problems because the carbon will buildup in the open space provided between the head and block. developing hot spots.
